The Eminence in Shadow Episode 18 Overview

This series has garnered quite the hype after its release. And the credit surely goes to good animation, a relatable male lead and a bunch of beautiful anime girls who are sure to start waifu wars.
The anime is directed by Nakanishi Kazuya, who is also famous for his work with Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu, Trinity Seven, Strike the Blood, etc. Nexus studio is handling the animation, which despite not being very famous in its field, is delivering satisfactory results as of now.
I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

The Eminence in Shadow Episode 18 Review and Recap – The First Champion

The 18th episode of The Eminence in Shadow is here, and we are back with another review. This episode starts with Cid meeting his obsessive and stalkerish sister, who has a vengeance in her heart. Apparently, Cid has been missing out on their family gatherings, and hence, she deliberately tries to choke the life out of him. She demands that he better be present at the Bushin festival when she would fight in place of Princess Rose.
Later, Cid manages to use the VIP tickets that Claire forcefully gives him and secures a seat just beside Princess Iris. This would be the first formal meeting between the two, and the encounter goes quite well. Here, Cid experiments to see how his facade of Mundane Mann going, and the results do not disappoint him.
When he asks Iris and others who are the best candidates to win the Bushin festival, the answer is clear. Everybody is looking towards Annerose and Princess Iris. When asked if there is anyone else who has caught their attention, they mention Mundane Mann. But they do not think that he can win at all as, according to them, he is passing his matches because of sheer luck.
This news provides immense joy to Cid, who wanted this outcome, from the beginning. Afterwards, at an important battle, he was able to make a grand display of his powers and establish how strong he is, after flying under the radar for so many days.
He meets another surprise guest again. And that is none other than the elf Beatrix who claimed to be the aunt of Alpha. Before the meeting, Princess Iris already informed Cid that Beatrix is none other than the first-ever champion of the Bushin festival and that she is very powerful. So when Cid meets Beatrix again, he automatically pretends to be a mob character, claiming he did not notice her so that he does not catch her attention.

In the background, we also see Perv Asshat scheming something and trying to find who Mundane Mann is after he beats Annerose mercilessly. Asshat is planning something big and doesn’t want a powerful entity like the mysterious Mundane to mess it up for him.
Verdict
This was another episode that was setting up the stage for the next big event, which will unveil itself in the later episodes. The comic time of this anime is really impressive, as even in serious situations, it can make you laugh. This episode especially gives us much information about what might happen in the future, and hopefully, the anime will cover everything before this season ends. Watch this anime on Netflix.
