Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Review on X: Fans Are Divided Over Receiving the Anime in Night City

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Review on X: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 dropped on Netflix on October 20, bringing the fandom back to Night City with ten new episodes. Season 1 did not just give viewers a bunch of cool animation and a rather dystopian city to be obsessed with. It gave them characters they got attached to, knowing full well that attachment was probably going to hurt.

With Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix, X (formerly Twitter) is seeing a combination of excitement, praise, disappointment and viewers discovering that they can get attached to fictional characters who live in some unpleasant universe. The reactions are split: while some fans think the sequel has managed to match or even surpass the previous one, others are more convinced that its new episodes and interconnected storylines hit the same way.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Review on X: Fans Arguing Over Whether It Lives Up to Season 1

One big challenge for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is that it is not coming with a fully clean slate. The first season already established what viewers love about the franchise. For X user @pushinpama, the season is enjoyable, but does not reach the heights of Season 1. The user found the season weaker, writing, “weaker season, following two stories to come together at some middle point, honestly slightly disappointed, I don’t think the characters are that good especially too it’s counterparts from season 1.” While @CountessLili just seemed disappointed, writing, “it was like a 4/10 honestly, really disappointed.”

Another user, @Okami13_, had a considerably more enthusiastic response, calling the second season a “master follow-up” that lives up to the high bar set by Season 1. The user praised the animation, storytelling, new cast, and soundtrack, writing, “Animation is 10/10, the story is amazing, and the new cast perfectly represents what Night City should be. All of it is backed by an incredible soundtrack composed by Tsuneo Imahori”, further adding, “This is not a rehash of Season 1. Season 2 feels different, yet somehow familiar. It tells a more personal story that deals with themes of revenge, loss, generational trauma, and the heavy toll it can cost you. There are no love stories this time around – just the cold, brutal reality of Night City, giving it a 9.5/10.

Posts with completely different reactions, of course, show that the two users can have different opinions after watching the same show.

Some Fans Think Season 2 Is Even Better

X user @zerptwo23 gave Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 a perfect score, adding that they enjoyed it even more than Season 1, writing, “I enjoyed that more than season 1 it’s actually crazy. This season left me even more sad, yet hopefully at the same time. I won’t spoiler anything, but I’ll say that ending is way better than the first season.”

Another viewer, @yamato_kage23, reacted to Episode 10 writing, “Can’t explain it but this fills me with HOPE.”

The New Characters Seem to Make an Impression

For X user @Okami13_ praised the new characters, highlighting, “The new cast perfectly mirrors Cyberpunk 2077’s lifepaths… These characters are not what I expected. The chaos is grounded by Roman, who acts as the observer, documenting everything through an old school video camera. Roman is the sole voice of reason on the show, and his relationship with D serves as the backbone of the season. They become acquainted by pure chance early on – but of course, things quickly start to go left.”

For another user, @pushinpama, “I don’t think the characters are that good especially too it’s counterparts from season 1.”

Meanwhile, @TheSkimaskGYT shared a reaction to Episode 3 writing, “D truly has lost it and fused with a red key making this entity and much easier to control all cyberware!”

The reviews by users on X show that there is a divide between the enthusiastic and more disappointed reactions, making the distinctions in perceiving the show rather clear.

Edgerunners 2 Is Still Finding Ways to Hurt Its Viewers

X user @herbbalink summed up their experience writing, “Cyberpunk edgerunners 2 was insane they did it again and got me attached to a character that died…”

Another user on X, @xovictoria_baby, also acknowledged the emotional damage caused by Season 1, accepting that it would not stop them from returning for more, writing, “did season 1 do some serious emotional damage? yes. yes it did. is that gonna stop me from going back for more? absolutely not LMAOO”.

For some fans, Season 2 appears to have delivered the connection with the franchise; while for some fans, the characters have not quite managed to reach the heights of the OG cast.

X Verdict: Is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Worth Watching?

The reactions on X suggest that the second season of the show has managed to bring viewers back into a world that they already loved and give them something new to be arguing about. The viewers seem to be judging Season 2 in relation to its preceding season, and thus Season 1 has become the standard against which everything is being measured, which perhaps is both a compliment and a difficult position for the new season.

X users are not exactly unanimous in deciding whether Season 2 is better than Season 1 or not: some call it a masterpiece, while others feel that the story does not have the same impact. However, what seems rather clear is that the show knows how to get the viewers talking, and by the reactions on X, some viewers are already ready for another visit, whilst knowing that they might be caught up by emotional damage.
