Ao Ashi Season 2 Episode 3 Review

Ashito Gets His Big Chance in the U-18 Premier League
The time for the U-18 Premier League football match is here, and Ashito is exceptionally excited for it. He goes to a game where Tachibana plays flawlessly and realises how the B team is also on a roll. However, others in the B team make Ashito understand that it will be difficult to actually be selected to play as a regular on the A team. They tell him that most likely, he will spend his time on the bench.

They also add that even though he might end up becoming a benchwarmer, he could still learn a lot from just observing his teammates. However, this doesn’t mean that Ashito will not have any chance to play. And that exactly happens in the match. He does get called, and the rest is history. One must understand that the match is literally considered the top competition for high school-aged players. So the stakes were already extremely high.

Ashito’s Team Takes On Three-Time Inter-High Champions
The opponent Ashito and others had to face were Kashiwa Dai Business School. This was such a fabulous school for football that even Ashito knew about them. We are told that the school has a championship title, and they have become three-time inter-high champions. They even have 200 team members, making them one of Japan’s leading powerhouse schools when it comes to football.
Esperion’s A-Team Proves Its Dominance Even Without Kuribayashi

When the match begins, the episode dives right into the tension, and we see an intense matchup happening right off the bat. It is apparent to the newly promoted B-Team members that this game is being played on a completely different standard. Even Ashito acknowledges how amazing and electrifying the energy is on the pitch. However, he is not impressed just because the A-Team is good.
He’s also impressed with the opponent team because they are giving Ashito’s team a tough time. However, the other team was not really happy because Kurubayashi did not play. The opponent team understood that the Tokyo City Esperion FC team was not taking them seriously.
Ashito Looks Past Akutsu’s Cruelty to Learn From His Football Skills

One thing I like about Ashito is the fact that he never misses a chance to learn from others. Akutsu has been nothing but terrible to Ashito from the very beginning. He has mocked Ashito and also insulted him time and time again. However, even when Akutsu acts mean to him in this episode, Ashito asks him for tips. Ashito knows very well that Akutsu is a brilliant player, and he is the only one who will be able to teach him properly how to mix attacking and defending at the same time.
Final Thoughts

The game was already going crazy, but things turned crazier when Ashito joined in. Needless to say, from that point onwards, I became hooked on the match. When he is on the pitch, it is nothing but a battlefield for him. He becomes extremely overwhelmed and realises just how difficult it is to be in the same league as others. I absolutely loved today’s episode, and I am eagerly waiting for the next one.
