The much-awaited 5th episode of Tsurune Season 2, aka Tsurune – The Linking Shot – or Tsurune: Tsunagari no Issha (ツルネ ―つながりの一射―) is here, and it has again managed to deliver a delightful watch. So without further ado, let us jump right into this review.
Tsurune Season 2 Episode 5 Overview
When the first season of this franchise dropped, we did not think it would be able to make a name for itself in the competitive sports anime market. But, it managed to set itself apart by becoming one of the very first anime that solely focuses on Kyudo, a Japanese martial art of archery.
This second season will be directed by Yamamura Takuya, who has worked on fan favourites like Koe no Katachi, Violet Evergarden, Clannad: After Story, and Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren, etc.
Tsuruoka Youta will be directing the music for this series, and we have heard his works on anime like Koe no Katachi, Violet Evergarden, Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica, Hellsing Ultimate, etc.
Kyoto Animation studios will be handling the animation, and we fans can rest assured of the quality as we have already received masterpieces like Koe no Katachi, Violet Evergarden, etc, from them.

Tsurune Season 2 Episode 5 Review and Recap – Childhood Memories
The fifth episode of this beautiful anime is here, and we are back again with its review. This episode diverted a bit from the ongoing problem with Minato’s archery, to the conflict between Nanao and Kaito. In the previous episode, we saw that Kaito blames himself for missing shots at the Regional Tournament, even though Minato was at fault. Minato focused on his rhythm more than his team and changed his style of archery, which threw off others’ balance.
Nanao knew that and wanted Kaito to accept that it was not his shortcoming but rather, Minato’s. As Kaito is stubborn by nature, he refuses to believe that and keeps his problems to himself. Being Kaito’s cousin and best friend, it is only natural that Nanao feels betrayed, and thus, when he confronts Kaito about it, they stop talking.
Even in this episode, they are still not on talking terms and try to avoid encountering each other. This apparent reluctance of acknowledging each other’s presence is noticed by everyone in the club as well. But things get a little out of hand when Kaito almost punches Nanao when he tries to confront him again in front of Ryouhei.
Through their childhood memories, we see how they have always been there for each other. Kaito has been there as a shield to rescue Nanao, and Nanao was there to protect Kaito emotionally. Nanao even joined the Kyudo club because of Kaito, so when Kaito refuses to rely on Nanao, it bothers Nanao as his brother.
But this is not the first time the members of the club need to face each other properly. Minato and Seiya both approach Nanao and Kaito separately and tell them to fight each other to settle things. And as usual, they have an all-out battle involving their bows and arrows.
Verdict
This episode has again proven that you do not need to be intense to create an engaging sports anime. Yes, you might not get the intensity of Haikyuu!! or Blue Lock in this series, but it has the stability that provides you with you a meaningful watch.
Today’s episode concentrated more on the psychological conflict between Nanao and Kaito, whose plays were influenced by their concerns. Now that it has settled, hopefully, the Kazemai Kyudo Club will bounce back to its former self. Watch this anime on HIDIVE.
