Phantom Lawyer Episode 16 Review
What happens after Yi-rang beats the intruders?
Yi-rang and Na-hyun learned that Te-geon had already taken the recorder with him and escaped. On the other hand, Do-kyung comes to see whether anything has happened to Na-hyun, reinforcing the fact that he actually likes her. He then goes to his own father to talk to him about the recorder, but he lashes out at Do-kyung.
Byung-Il looked very anxious about the whole recorder situation, and this was witnessed by Ki-joong. He realises that Byung-Il had been the main antagonist all this time.
Did they actually find the recorder?
Both Yi-rang and Na-hyun finally learn that the recorder is with Te-geon. They also find out that he is planning to leave the country. They then go to the shipyard and force him to disclose that the recorder is with Do-kyung. Weirdly enough, even though he has the recorder, he did not disclose it to his father.

Na-hyun deduces that maybe he, too, realises just how bad his father is. This makes her go to Do-kyung and confront him directly. She tries to make him understand how his father’s sin can destroy the law firm.
How did Yi-rang reveal the secret of Byung-Il?
Yi-rang goes to Byung-Il’s office, who makes the police arrest Yi-rang. That is when we learn that Yi-rang already went to his son and confronted him about the recorder. On the other hand, Yi-rang’s brother-in-law had managed to steal the recorder. The police officers could not keep Yi-rang arrested as they did not have proper charges against him. He then reveals everything in front of reporters and completely exposes Byung-Il.
What happens to Byung-Il?

Finally, Ki-joong’s name gets cleared, and everyone learns that he did nothing wrong. On the other hand, Yi-rang goes to meet Byung-Il in prison to have a chat. Here, Ki-joong takes over Yi-rang and talks to Byung-Il as his past junior. When he asks why Byung-Il did this to him, he just says that he did it to win. Byung-Il also expressed no regret for what he did.
However, one good thing happened, which is that Yi-rang’s mother finally got to meet her husband one last time in the end. He even shared a meal with all his family members.
How did the series end?
The series ended with a fun note where we see Yi-rang continuing his duty as the phantom lawyer. He is still taking clients who are ghosts and need his assistance. On top of that, the story also brings closure to his relationship with Na-hyun. Just as things start to fall apart, a timely kiss turns it around, leading to a satisfying end for the two.

What worked, and what did not work?
The ending was charming and wrapped things up on an enjoyable note. That said, the series leaned heavily into its lighthearted tone and never quite delivered a consistently engaging storyline. While it had its moments, its primary focus remained on comedy. Those looking for something fun and undemanding will likely enjoy it.
