Dive into You Episode 9 Review

The Real Antagonist Finally Reveals Himself in a Brilliant Twist
Things finally get clear about who the main antagonist is in this story and who has been hounding the siblings for so long. I had a sneaking suspicion that the director is the one who is pulling all the strings, but that was it. The show does a very good job of throwing in Hyung-won to confuse viewers about the actual villain. At first, Ha-ru in Ha-na’s body also thinks that it was Hyung-won who did everything. However, a flashback showcases just who the real culprit is.
It also seems like Jun-mo has gone through a complete mental breakdown, as he doesn’t see normal humans as just humans anymore. For him, everyone is a character in his movie, and he’s the director. He became obsessed with Ha-na precisely because she was his muse. On top of that, he also held an unhealthy fascination with her, which was also something akin to a distorted form of love.
Jun-mo Sees Ha-na as Nothing More Than His Personal Muse

We get a dangerous glimpse of Jun-mo’s obsession when the siblings get their hands on his diary. There was a log in his laptop, which opened to the word Canary because that’s what he thought of his muse, Ha-na. It becomes apparent that he sees Ha-na as nothing more than a source from which he can get ideas. He wants to keep her locked and completely dependent on him so that she only knows him and no one else; such a situation also makes him see her only as an actress.
Jun-mo’s Obsession With Ha-na’s Acting Career Takes a Sinister Turn
Jun-mo menacingly loses his calm after Ha-na mentions she did not want to act anymore. He was so hell-bent on her acting career that he even sacrificed his own chances just so she could keep on working. This further proves that he had not been right in the head from the very beginning. In the first timeline, Ha-na was already a great actress and continued to work for him. Thus, the reason he killed her is perhaps that she lost her ability to act. And when he saw that she did not serve his objective anymore, he had to put an end to her life.

Hyung-won’s Tragic Past Adds Heart to This Episode
This episode mostly revolved around Jun-mo and what he could do if things did not go according to plan. We also do see what happened with Hyung-won, and his story was both endearing and sad. He had to let go of his athletic career, but he found an unlikely friendship with Woo-jae.
He was never the problem, and he just wanted to protect the girl he fell in love with. Hyung-won genuinely cared for Ha-na, and it was his bad luck that she was already in love with Woo-jae.
Woo-jae also got a lot of screen time, but his impact was very little in this episode. He cannot help that he is very much unaware of whatever is going on in every timeline.

Final Thoughts
I absolutely loved this episode as well because it does a good job of building the mystery. However, I would like to know how Jun-mo managed to pull off all the things that he did. The last twist was not very surprising for me because I figured he would know that particular information.
