Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 9 Recap

Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 10 Review A Common Ground

In this episode, the spotlight shifts to Wignall, the enigmatic elf, while tension builds in the increasingly perilous dungeon. At first, Will is more of a hindrance than a help, as he struggles to perform even the simplest spell required for dungeon exploration: Search. This magic allows users to sense nearby monsters and is considered basic knowledge for any adventurer. Unfortunately, since Will lacks magical abilities, he’s unable to perform them, making him lag behind his peers, who are talented mages.

Wignall, initially tolerant of Will, becomes more critical of his shortcomings. His frustration turns into outright disdain when Will tries to offer him food, but Wignall refuses to accept it. Elves, being a proud race, will only allow themselves to be touched by those they consider worthy—and Will hasn’t earned that respect. Even Lianna begins to doubt Will’s capabilities, though she still holds onto a sliver of hope. Her determination seems tied to her mission of defeating a monster known as Luminous Naberus, a fearsome creature worth 110 credits. Despite his limitations, Will may still be able to contribute to this battle.

However, monsters aren’t the only danger lurking in the dungeon. A pair of mysterious figures are ruthlessly slaughtering both humans and beasts, though their motives remain unclear. Their presence adds another layer of mystery to the dungeon’s growing threats.

As if that weren’t enough, Will’s troubles are just beginning. While the mages may boast about the power of Search magic, it has a critical flaw: it cannot detect certain traps, and there are some monsters that can even evade its reach.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 10 Review And Recap

Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 10 Review A Common Ground

This episode dives a bit more into the life of the top students who are thought to have everything they want in their lives. The top 4 of Rigarden Academy may not have anything to worry about as they are at the forefront and most likely people to graduate with flying marks, but is that enough for them? Both Wignall and Lihanna shared their views regarding their position in this episode, and you could see all their lives have not been as rosy as we think.

From them, we get to know that the real geniuses of their family are those who show extraordinary talent at a very young age. In this case, we can consider Elfaria, who was allowed to climb the tower in her first year, to be lauded as a miracle. Thus, ranking high in school means actually nothing for many of the higher-ups. This is also why Wignall and Lihanna are considered failures in their household even when they hold great respect amongst peers.

In this episode, we also see how Wignall and Will are similar to each other when it comes to their ambitions. They want to scale the tower not for themselves but to be with the girls who went far away from them. To catch up to their lover, in the case of Will, or to a foster sister, in the case of Wignall. Thus, here, they both find common ground and establish a mutual understanding along with respect for the other.

Verdict

We were also treated with some great fight scenes because of the grave situation that our protagonists are in. Lihanna’s team gets divided into three groups, and they are shoved into a dangerous level of dungeon teaming with monsters. But the situation at the higher levels is not great either because other mages got attacked by outside forces as well.
