Urusei Yatsura Episode 6 Review and Recap – Oyuki’s Plans

From episode 6, it was clear that the makers adapted different manga chapters in various sections of the anime, which is why the first half of the episode did not match the second half.

In the beginning, we see the continuation of the previous episode where something was about to happen on Lum’s planet.

Hence, this episode starts with a fully armoured Lum forcing a very reluctant Ataru to go with her. Ataru, who just wants to eat sukiyaki, has zero interest in accompanying his wife for an event he does not even know of. But Lum being Lum, threatens him and takes him to her planet anyways.

There Ataru sees that a huge battle is about to begin between Lum’s clan and a separate clan, where he is forced to participate as well. We also saw another female character who might be an essential side character later, called Benten.

Due to Ataru’s silly mistakes, the outcome of the battle was not something good, and he had to face the consequences of it. This section was entertaining but not as good as the previous episodes.

The second half depicted an entirely distinct story and focused on a different girl. In this case, Ataru goes on a trip to another planet, where he meets Lum’s friend Oyuki. Here again, Ataru shamelessly flirts with Oyuki in front of his wife and ex-girlfriend.

Unlike all the other girls who do not give any attention to Ataru, Oyuki was down to have a fling with him. But in the end, we find out it was because she just wanted to wrap him around her fingers.

At the end of the episode, there was also a long extra segment where we witnessed a comedic bit regarding Ataru’s decision to quit. Here, the cast of Urusei Yatsura comes together to steal the position of the protagonist of the franchise.

Today’s episode was average for me as it did not make me laugh as much as the past episodes did. It almost felt like a filler episode between the main episodes, which is why I was not very engaged while watching it.

Verdict

All in all, it was a moderate watch, at least for me. The comedy was not good enough to make me laugh, even the harem trope could not help with the humour. I definitely think this anime has the potential to deliver a great episode next week. So I will be waiting for episode 7 and hope it will be a fun watch. Watch the anime on HIDIVE if you haven’t yet.
