The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 13 Review- Why?

Naofumi Party The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 13

The sentiments of the previous episode being a better finale than this one weren’t misplaced at all. The show has struck back on its haters and people who dared to call this season bad with the most egregious waste of space in anime since the entirety of The Promised Neverland Season 2. There was no reason for this episode to exist, and its existence is baffling on so many levels there could be an entire essay dissecting it. Never has a final episode accomplished so little despite there being a lot to do.

This episode could have been better had it been framed better. The narrative device used here was horribly cliched and came across as very low effort. It was just our characters sitting in a place reminiscing about the things that happened before the true finale of the last episode, that should have realistically been shown at the time that they happened, but weren’t. It was the kind of narrative device that shonen anime use when they have to insert single episode fillers between arcs, except this was even worse because this happened at the end of the season and not the start.

Kizuna fight The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 13

There was also this casual vibe to the episode that felt out of place with the entire season. It saw Naofumi and his party alongside Kizuna in her own world, taking in the calm they have earned after facing the true terror (not really, this is a facetious statement) of Kyo and the power of his book. There was a melancholy in the air that was only cleared up during the final moments of the episode. I wouldn’t say that the final moment wasn’t earned, but the overall hatred that the spirit tortoise arc has so rightfully earned has soured many towards this character forever, myself included.

If separated from the context of this being a final episode, this was a perfectly fine time to sit back and enjoy some warm memories of characters interacting with each other. We didn’t get enough time to spend with Kizuna and Naofumi and just learning that there was more to it that we missed and could watch right now was a comforting thought. Kizuna was one of the highlights of this season and seeing her memories of being stuck in the dome were heartbreaking and one of the more effective scenes of this entire season.

If there’s one thing to be said about The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 13 and the season as a whole, it was remarkably consistent. It was highly mediocre and disappointing the entire way through, and it didn’t think of changing that in the final episode. Again, the music was a high point for the series, another returning factor. The season ended with the ending theme, which was great and made one wish for a show that never existed in the first place. If there is going to be a The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 3, please let it be higher quality than this.

Verdict

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 13 was an exercise in futility that did not need to exist. It wasn’t a bad watch, but don’t expect anything but confusion and a feeling of being underwhelmed from watching this.

    • I can’t even imagine how you are able to live a life without having taste buds, but it must be hard. Thank you for the comment!

  1. I agree it was lack luster episode, frankly whole season is so far its like the turtle thing should be 13 more episodes and they hurried three it. Anyone who thinks otherwise is more than likely a twat.

  2. Episode 13 was so lacklustre. Your review was quite lenient and graceful on condemning this waste of the final episode. I still couldn’t muster up finishing watching it. Surprised to see an Indian reviewing anime. Very precise review.
