The Husband Episode 3 Review

A Marriage Built on Love and Broken by Loss

The episode opens with a touching flashback of Tae-ju and Se-yun’s wedding. They seem to be so happy, and it shows how, in the present, they despise each other. The story quickly cuts to one of the darkest days of their lives. While Se-yun desperately rushes their critically ill daughter to the emergency room, she repeatedly calls Tae-ju, but he doesn’t pick up the call. The other doctors fight to save the child, but despite their best efforts, she dies before Tae-ju arrives.

The cruel twist is that Tae-ju wasn’t absent because he didn’t care. He was in the middle of another life-saving surgery, completely unaware that his own daughter was struggling to live. From Se-yun’s perspective, she believes that Tae-ju would have saved their child, and since he didn’t come, now he’s the one to blame for the child’s death.

The Walls Begin to Crack

Now, as the kidnapping has happened, Se-yun’s life is full of remorse and regret. Confined inside a hidden room, she has a long conversation with another kidnapped woman through a thick wall separating them. Unable to see each other, the two women speak openly about their marriages and why they would’ve been kidnapped.

We can see that Se-yun is feeling a bit sad as she is realising the efforts of Tae-ju because the other woman tells her that her husband told the kidnapper to do anything he wishes to do.

Mr Noh is Chilling

Mr Noh is the sweetest and kindest guy, according to others. To his neighbours, he’s a polite coding instructor living an ordinary life. But behind closed doors, he’s a predator who calmly kidnaps women and kills them for fun.

Rather than portraying him as a strong villain, his calm and normal appearance gives the creeps. This makes us question how even the sweet person we see might actually have a disgusting secret. Watching him casually hand Se-yun a painkiller for her injured neck moments before reminding her that “time is running out” is deeply disturbing.

Tae-ju is Running Out of Time

At the police station, Tae-ju is facing a huge turmoil. Back at the police station, Tae-ju’s nightmare only intensifies. Already being treated as the prime suspect, he suffers another panic when a stranger tells him that he knows where the wife is. Claiming to know Tae-ju is innocent, the stranger cryptically gives him an address and a deadline: arrive by 11 p.m. or his wife dies.

As the police tighten their surveillance, Tae-ju escapes custody and even gathers some medical tools. Except his brother and mother, nobody now believes him.

Se-yun Refuses to Be a Victim

The episode ends with one of its most satisfying moments. But also could become a worse one in the next episode.

Instead of waiting to be rescued, Se-yun decides to escape. Using the painkiller to make her ankle slippery, she removes the chain. She then attaches a weight plate and swings it towards the end. The episode ends. It’s a clever, resourceful scene that finally gives Se-yun a chance to become pretty tough.

Whether the escape succeeds or not, it’s the perfect cliffhanger to leave us gripped for what’s next.

With powerful emotional revelations, a terrifyingly believable villain and a stupid escape by Tae-ju, Episode 3 really made the series feel worth watching. More importantly, it reminds us that The Husband isn’t just about solving a kidnapping, it’s about two broken people confronting years of grief, regret and unresolved love before it’s too late.
