Four Hands, Two Sonatas Episode 6 Review: Jeong-yo is Alive But At a Major Cost

We finally have some answers about Jeong-yo’s whereabouts after 10 years following his disappearance. Instead of him and Pi-o meeting each other and confronting each other, we see Jeong-yo in a completely different state, proving that the Prague incident has left him crumbled and lost.

Four Hands, Two Sonatas Episode 6 has a runtime of 60 minutes. The series (포핸즈) stars Song Kang, Lee Jun-young, Jang Gyu-ri, Kim Joo-heon, Yoon Se-ah and Jung Jin-young and is directed by Park Hyeon-seok.

Four Hands, Two Sonatas Episode 6 Review

The episode starts with Pi-o finally deciding to secretly search for Jeong-yo. He didn’t just start after 10 years, but rather for the past 5 years, Pi-o has been investigating Jeong-yo with a private detective. Behind all the fame, Pi-o is still a teenager searching for his best friend.

Pi-O Finally Gets Answers

As he discusses with the detectives, he finds that going to Europe and meeting people who might have seen Jeong-yo is the best idea. A homeless person even correctly recognises Jeong-yo from a photo. He even says that the pianist (Jeong-yo) lost sensation in his right hand due to someone shooting him. Here we learn that Jeong-yo was shot, he lives in Europe, and he can no longer play the piano as his right hand has become numb.

Even more surprising is when the homeless man says that Jeong-yo was searching for his mother in Europe. Why would he do that? Did he forget all his memories? Maybe yes.

Despite finding it hard to believe, Pi-o finally accepts after he meets with the man who kidnapped Jeong-yo. The man says that all he was hired to do was to hold Jeong-yo until the contest finished, but things went out of his hands, and he had to shoot Jeong-yo. Pi-o learns that Jeong-yo has died, and he feels terrible. But did he?

Grief Finally Breaks Him

Pi-o is overwhelmed, and grief overtakes him. He believes that if only he had had a good bond with his grandpa, he wouldn’t have gotten so obsessive over the piano to the point where he brawled with his friend and lost him to death, in the end. Due to the grief, Pi-o develops a fever and becomes mentally drained.

He even breaks down in front of Jae-in as she’s the only one who truly knows him. Jae-in finally admits her feelings for him, and Pi-o reciprocates. The two share a kiss, and we now know the main lead has a girlfriend! However, it truly feels weird because he is at his lowest. So when she confessed, he probably would’ve reciprocated to ease his hurt.

Despite releasing an album and returning to performing, Pi-O cannot escape Jeong-Yo. He even begins to hallucinate Jeong-yo and eventually ends up in therapy. Pi-O’s grief isn’t solved by money, fame and what now? He is still trapped in time as he firmly believes that he’s the reason why Jeong-yo is dead.

The Ending Changes Everything

Well, well, well. Just when we thought the series was going to end and become a flop, a twist arrives. Pi-o travels to Europe again, after having a fight with Hyun-soo about why he always favoured Jeong-yo. In Europe, Pi-o attends a conductor competition and sees the last participant named Luca Domenico.

He only sees the back of the person but immediately knows it is him: Jeong-yo. Pi-o watches Jeong-yo conduct the instrumentalists with so much passion and feels weird that he’s witnessing a dead person performing on stage. After all, he was not dead. The reveal is so disturbing as we see Jeong-yo unable to use his right hand much, proving that he has become completely different.

Episode 6 is the emotional breakdown and a major reset for the story. Pi-O finally has the answer he desperately wanted, but his answer is complicated. His best friend is alive, but he is now Luca.
