A Mission That Changed Everything

The episode opens with another flashback. In 2006, at Jeju Island, we see Jin-cheol, Han-su and Kim protecting the US President’s daughter. Through this flashback, we learn how the trio used to be. We see how Kim simply focuses on eating his meal while Jin-cheol and Han-su are choking each other and fighting. Kim is calm. That’s for sure.

The flashback also subtly explains Kim’s meticulous planning skills, showing how he designed the bunker that would later become such an important part of the mission.

Min-ji’s Nightmare Continues

Min-ji’s life becomes tougher as she is now trapped with Mr Ju. Their conversation is disturbing as Ju literally manipulates the kid with his subtle yet intimidating words.

Min-ji repeatedly asks to speak with her father, but every request is denied. Even after everything she’s endured, she refuses to abandon hope that Kim will find her. Her resilience continues to be one of the show’s biggest strengths. She’s Kim’s daughter after all.

Mole Cricket Is More Than Just an Antagonist

Mole Cricket, you creep.

Although Mole Cricket continues using Min-ji as bait to lure Kim into the open, the episode points out that his plans aren’t really malicious. He apparently has another beef with the politics messing with his life, and he is showing his frustration in the wrong way.

The growing conflict between Mole Cricket and the higher-ups adds another intriguing layer to the conspiracy surrounding Kim. It clearly shows that the agents aren’t at fault, but the higher powers who are not planning well.

Han-su Quietly Steals the Episode

Honestly speaking, Han-su is my favourite character. While Kim remains the emotional heart of the story, Han-su unexpectedly becomes Episode 6’s MVP. His infiltration of the SMD headquarters is genuinely thrilling. Sliding underneath a moving vehicle, sneaking through the facility and using the building’s ventilation system and whatnot? He is extremely resourceful and hilarious.

His determination to rescue Min-ji, even when completely surrounded, speaks volumes about how much he has come to care for Kim and his daughter. Cute.

Jin-cheol Brings the Comedy

Love. Love. Love him! Amid all the tension, Jin-cheol once again provides much-needed comic relief. His awkward encounter with his wife is unexpectedly hilarious. Even though he can battle a yard of villains, his biggest fear is his wife, and it’s so adorable to watch.

His dramatic return with the guns blazing, only to find that it’s useless, makes everything super funny. The timing of the comedies is brilliantly fixed, kudos to the director. The humour never feels forced and helps prevent the episode from becoming emotionally exhausting.

A Reunion Worth Waiting For

Finally, we get what we want. With Han-su captured, Jin-cheol cornered, and Min-ji running out of options, Mr Kim finally storms into the SMD headquarters. His entrance is nothing short of spectacular, nearly killing the Vice Minister before finally laying eyes on his daughter.

There are no lengthy dialogues or melodrama. All we see is a simple scene where a father and his daughter finally gain sight of each other after a long, long time. It’s a beautifully understated ending that rewards six episodes of relentless pursuit, heartbreak and near misses.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this episode proved to be another excellent one. It balances the action, emotional storyline, comedy and a tiny bit of romance. The rescue mission was brilliant, and the reunion between Kim and Min-ji provides the payoff viewers have been waiting for.

With father and daughter finally reunited, the question is no longer whether Kim can find Min-ji but how far he’ll go to protect her from the evil that’s approaching them faster than ever.
