What happens after Nogami’s true motive gets exposed?

The brothers now suspect that Nogami killed his victim not by accident but by planning the murder from the very beginning. This starts a full-scale investigation to track Nogami’s every trail, who is on the run after fleeing from home. Finding Nogami, however, was not an easy task, as the man did everything in his power to successfully evade police officers as much as possible. He also deliberately used his credit cards so that the police had some idea about where he was, but he soon left that place before they could figure out his exact location.

How is Nogami involved with Okochi?

It is revealed that Nogami’s son, Taiki, was a gifted swimmer, and he was coached by Okochi, Nogami’s victim. It is alleged that Taiki took his own life after he was bullied by Okochi. When Makoto does his investigation, he also suspects that this could have been a very elaborate cover-up case by the school.

What did Makoto uncover later about Taiki?

Makoto learned that Okochi did not let Taiki rest at all and made him swim even when he could not. This worsened his shoulder, which was already damaged because of an injury. Thus, Taiki had to leave the swimming club because he was pressured by someone else. Apparently, someone called Chinen was the one who decided everything about what Okochi would teach. Makoto also learned that this Chinen is soon getting married, and he rushes to her wedding venue.

Did Makoto find the Nogami?

Surprisingly, Makoto finds Nogami pretty easily. He planned to kill the advisor, Chinen, who allegedly drove his son to death. Makoto even tells Nogami to go ahead and do it, but obviously, Nogami could not, and he breaks down and gets arrested.

Did Taiki’s brother get any closure?

While talking to Minoru, Taiki’s brother mentioned how he believed his older brother was weak, which is why he died. However, Minoru proves to him that his brother tried his best even till the end to get back into swimming. Thus, he backed Taiki, mentioning he was not a loser and tried to restore his reputation in his brother’s mind.

What about the case of Makoto and Minoru’s parents’ death?

We get a flashback showcasing just how difficult it was for the kids to understand the meaning of what happened to their parents. Makoto, being the older brother, took the news very analytically and even promised that he would find the culprits at such an age.

Towards the end, the brothers plan to find the man who met their father for the last time, as they never really gave up on their revenge.

What worked, and what did not work?

This episode takes a calm and realistic approach to the thriller. It doesn’t depend on big twists or shocking moments to stay engaging.

However, some viewers might feel the case was solved a bit too easily, though that didn’t bother me much.
