Tagusari Bros Episode 1 Review

Who are Tagusari Bros?

Makoto and Minoru are two brothers who have been very close from a very young age. They grew up to be talented government officials; the older Makoto became a police officer, and the younger Minoru became a medical examiner. They have very valid reasons behind why they wanted to solve crimes and pursue criminals to prosecute them as soon as possible.

What happened to them in the past?

One day, Makoto goes to call his parents, only to find them dead in their sleep. He also saw a man going away from his home, and then later found his brother bleeding from his hand.

Because of a legal rule, they could not hunt for the person who killed their parents, and that is why the brothers are hellbent on doing their work as efficiently as possible.

What is their current case?

The recent case that they have is also pretty confusing. It becomes difficult for Minoru to pinpoint how Makimura, the victim, actually died. On the other hand, when the assailant’s mother came to confirm the body, she claimed that it was not her son. It gets revealed that Makimura had been using a fake identity all these years.

Another key detail of this case was that the murder happened when the door was locked from the inside, and while his girlfriend was out of the country. Thus, it becomes all the more difficult for the brothers to get a proper lead on who could have murdered the victim.

How does the investigation go on?

As there were hardly any clues regarding what had happened to the victim, the brothers started looking at other scenarios where he would have succumbed to injuries somewhere other than his home, where he actually died. Then the zero dawned on the idea that maybe he got involved in an accident, and after reaching home, he died because of his wounds.

Finally, they find out about his damaged bicycle and confirm their suspicion about the accident theory.

What actually happened?

The victim was actually coming home, and on his way, he was hit by a car. The man had wanted Makimura to go to the police station or the hospital, but Makimura refused because he was using a fake identity. Sadly, by the time he reached home, he was too injured, and he died there.

The assailant claimed that he had no idea that he had killed a man, and was taken away by the police, but was released later.

What are the good and bad aspects of this episode?

This series is very different from the usual thriller shows that heavily depend on murderous characters and mind-bending twists. Rather than that, the focus on emotion is a lot more prominent here, and the case that we saw was a lot simpler than what one would expect from this kind of genre. However, the ending definitely elevated the series to new heights as the last turn of events was pretty unexpected.

The simplicity of the storyline and the depth of the characters are very different, which is also why it’s so charming. It does not rely on cheap thrills and actually fleshes out the story very well. If someone likes things that are more fast-paced, they might not enjoy this as much.
