Why did Minoru want someone else to be the killer rather than Mogi?

We know who has always been the more emotionally attached brother in this series. Minoru loved Mogi like his own parents after their deaths. He could not bear the truth when he found out that Mogi was the one who killed his parents. However, when he learned that there might be someone else responsible for his parents’ death, this gave him hope that maybe this time it is someone else he will be able to kill without any regrets. He felt that he would finally be able to take his revenge without feeling extreme sadness.

How did Makoto find out about the culprit?

Makoto found out that the fisherman who was killed because of his father was none other than Haruko’s father. This was the same girl who had treated them as her own brothers and celebrated their achievements throughout their lives. Both brothers treated Haruko as their own big sister as well, and always saw her as a family member. Thus, finding out that she’s the one who had killed their parents was something unexpected.

How did Haruko manage to kill at such a young age?

Haruko stalked the Tagusari family for a very long time and got to witness their eating habits. One day, when the Tagusaris were not in their home, she entered their house and put poison in the condiment. Only Makoto and Minoru’s mother and father ate that condiment, and they died before Mogi could deliver the final blow.

Did she feel regret after doing this?

She did not feel regret for killing their parents. However, she did feel regret for doing something so bad to Makoto and Minoru. She genuinely started to care for them. She tried to go away, but she also did not like staying away from them and came back to help them out. Haruko just tells Makoto and Minoru to get this over with and kill her so that they can finally take their revenge.

Did the brothers actually kill Haruko?

The ending was one of the most confusing things I have ever seen. We were never directly shown that Makoto pulled the trigger. In its place, we hear a gunshot, and we see blood dripping down. In the next scene, we see the brothers talking at the harbour, and later, we see them having a fun time while eating food with their parents.  

What was the original ending?

The ending feels like the makers wanted viewers to interpret it in their own way. I think the brothers went through with their revenge, and the main story ends there. Since revenge was the central theme, the show doesn’t clearly show what happens to them afterwards. However, because they are later seen going to the police station, it’s possible they turned themselves in.

Was it a satisfying ending?

The satisfaction of this series depends on the person who is watching it. For me, it was a unique way to end the story. I was a bit frustrated not knowing what ultimately happened to the brothers. Yet, I’m still glad they finally found the culprit and were reunited with their parents, even if it was only most likely in a dream sequence.
