Shantaram Episode 10 Review: Lin Gets Betrayed by his Loved Ones

Shantaram Episode 10 finds Lin (Charlie Hunnam) searching for the drug trafficker Maurizio along with Prabhu and Abdullah, while Karla makes way with her plans. The latest installment of the drama series is directed by Ian B Macdonald and has a teleplay by Aaron Sprecher. Moreover, the total runtime of the episode is forty-six minutes.

The complete cast of the series includes Alexander Siddig as Abdel Khader Khan, Shubham Saraf as Prabhu, Luke Pasqualino as Maurizio, Elektra Kilbey as Lisa Carter, Alyy Khan as Qasim Ali, Matthew Joseph as Ravi, Sujaya Dasgupta as Kavita, Antonia Desplat as Karla, and Fayssal Bazzi as Abdullah Taheri. Moreover, the latest episode is titled Dig Two Graves.

The episode starts with Didier, who finds out about the goons who attacked Lin in the previous episode and advises him to stay away from the entire ruckus. The convicted fugitive learns that Maurizio had not only lied to the kingpin about the drugs, but also blamed him for Modena’s stolen money. Moreover, this wrongful accusation triggers a strong feeling of revenge inside Lin and takes him back to his darkest phase.

Furthermore, Karla, who has now accepted her feelings for Lin, decides to team up with Kavita and Lisa in order to trade Lin’s story with Khader Bhai’s Sagarwada deal. She comes to the conclusion that if Lin needs to stay in Bombay, then one of them has to leave the place. Thereby, leading to a big sacrifice on Karla’s end.

The episode brings back the raw action, both in the past and present scenarios, and leads up to a handful of fights. Lin’s confrontation with Maurizio, in the end, makes the former even more vulnerable and prone to reconsidering his relationship with Karla. Meanwhile, Abdullah and Prabhu play out their parts of trusted companions quite dutifully.

We also get to see Officer Nightangle arriving in Bombay only to get irritated by the local authorities. He looks really determined to bring the fugitive back to justice, and end his hunch to find Lindsay Ford. And to be honest, even I look forward to their menacing face-off at last.

The episode is less shaky compared to the previous installments and finds its way easily to reach the point. During the middle episodes, the series had almost lost the rhythm, mostly due to pacing issues, but has now found the groove. Even though all the recurring characters make their appearance, Charlie Hunnam gets enough space to skillfully weave his character.

However, the series has still not redeemed itself completely. And need to provide a befitting finish to Lin’s arch. I am anticipating a better fate for Prabhu and Karla, while still unsure of what’s in store for Lisa and Modena.

The episode is more gritty than the rest, and also carries a strong overtone of revenge. The entire setup points toward Lin and his decision to backtrack from his conscious choices, which will only create more chaos in his journey.
