The Perfect Lie Episode 4 Review: This episode delivers another emotionally charged chapter as Ji-seon fights to reclaim her dignity.

The Perfect Lie (라이어) is an ongoing South Korean psychological thriller directed by Jo Young-min, starring Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin in the lead roles.

Ji-seon Faces Public Humiliation After Jun-ho’s Interview

With a single interview, Jun-ho effectively destroyed Ji-seon’s whole career, as the whole school thinks of her as a gold digger now. This is an immense mental burden for Ji-seon, who already faced a bad past. She even considers escaping all of these things once and for all but comes back after realising she cannot just end everything.

Even though Ji-seon showcased great restraint and control while she was facing these challenges, the fact stands that she cannot return to her job without the mockery. Ji-seon understands that but still maintains that it is her job and hence, she will have to return to it.

Ji-seon Refuses to Live in Fear as Society Turns Against Her

Ji-seon’s friends and family members all warned her in an attempt to prepare her for the harsh judgment that society would put on her. Her friend even tells her to keep what she has gone through in the past in mind while considering escalating the issue. Yet, Ji-seon just says that pursuing the truth would be better than living like she is already dead. This much mental fortitude is something that makes Ji-seon a very strong female character.

Jun-ho’s Guilt Remains Unclear as His Son Faces Bullying

Jun-ho is an extremely complex character. First of all, there is much mystery surrounding the death of his first wife. He was present when she died of an overdose and allegedly did nothing to save her. On top of that, when he was asked about this question in his polygraph test, he just said he wanted to respect his wife’s wish to be at peace.

However, even towards the middle of the episode, not much was shown to prove that Jun-ho was guilty of anything. He was showcased as someone who was genuinely regretting going out with Ji-seon. He was also shown suffering from the fact that his son was getting bullied at his school because of all the controversy.

Jun-ho Tries to Get Close to the Police Officer Investigating Him

Another angle that came up in this episode was the pursuit of Jun-ho towards the police officer, Hwa-young. This was interesting to see because usually somebody who is a suspect would not try to go out with their officer, especially if they’re already married. It was not shown whether Jun-ho already knew about her marriage or not, but he certainly tried to be closer to her. Not only that, but later when he attempted to have a conversation with her again, she gave him the cold shoulder.

The ending of this episode was easily its biggest highlight, and I genuinely did not see that twist coming! I am absolutely loving how the show keeps us on the edge of our seats every week, and this was the perfect cliffhanger to end on. Now, I know I will be thinking about what happens next until the next episode finally drops.
