Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 10 Review: Triple Threat Tag Team Battle Royale

Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 10 was an exciting episode that captured a lot of subtlety at which the show has gotten very good. Let’s see how it all went in this review!

Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 10 Overview

Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 10 Title

Reign of the Seven Spellblades, or Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai suru in original Japanese, is an action and fantasy anime set on the backdrop of a magical world that is being produced by anime studio J.C.Staff. The studio is also known for producing and animating popular shows such as Toradora and One Punch Man. This episode is also known as Nanatsuma Episode 10.

The series is based on a light novel written by Bokuto Uno and Ruria Miyuki and is directed by Masato Matsune. He has been behind several smaller-scale productions before this, even directing shows like Megido 72 and Chronos Ruler. Click here to read the review of the previous episode in the series.

Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 10 Review- Master and Knight

Guy Michella Oliver Nanao Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 10

Katie is a fascinating character. Half of the things she does and gets away with, you would call characters insane for. Not only did she find it in her to forgive a senior who nearly killed two of her friends, but she accepted favours from her and cheerily said goodbye to her as she left in this episode. Totally in character for her, of course, but one can’t help but wonder about the impact someone like her has been allowed to have on the story.

Come to think of it, with Miligan, the Troll, and the initial duel in the catacombs- she has driven more storylines than all the other members combined. She has had a good run and is entertaining to watch, so I’m not exactly complaining, but it is high time we continued with a story that perhaps features her the least out of all the other Sword Roses- the competition between the first years to see who is the strongest among them.

Werewolf attack Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 10

This is easily my favourite thing the show has ever done, apart from the ending of Episode 6. This has the potential to feature so many great dynamics and intriguing stories just because the show took the time to introduce different fighting styles and emphasise how necessary it is to combine both magic and sword fighting in its battle system. Not only does it help the show stand out amongst its similar peers, but it makes for some truly unpredictable matchups. So what if Nanao is the strongest physical fighter in the class? She is going to go down with one well-placed spell, regardless.

Michella was at the centre of Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 10; it is about time she got a story to herself. Hers is a tale of a jealous sibling coming after her, one who has always been jealous of the praise and attention Chella has received since they were both young. I still have my misgivings about her as a character, mostly because she appeared to be too perfect for a world like this. This is the perfect opportunity to add some chinks into her armour, and one that the show is too smart to ignore.

Oliver’s entire journey for this tournament appears to be showcasing how good he is at the fundamentals of fighting and how much he relies on just the basics to win his battles. He got a new, worthy foe this time around, and it is legitimately hard to know if he will come out on top from what we have seen so far. The same can’t be said about Chella, but the emotional core of her story is much stronger and should carry her throughout this round of the tournament, at least.

Verdict

Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 10 was a very fun outing which saw two and a half highly entertaining battles alongside the exploration of a character that was much needed.

  1. “Lol nobody u only fight with the textbook”
“The textbook just sliced your cheek open.”

Also, I love the whole Milihand thing. They didn’t do quite as much with that as they could have, but the whole concept of turning her own severed hand into her familiar is just brilliant.
