Queen: Everything to Know About Netflix’s Upcoming Polish Drama

Netflix has had some interesting lineup in the month of June and added another one to the list is the series Queen (Królowa). It is a Polish drama that follows the story of a reuniting father-daughter duo, after years of being estranged. It is a Netflix original drama series which is written by the late Árni Ólafur Ásgeirsson and Kacper Wysocki. Directed by Lukasz Kosmicki, a popular director known for his films like The Coldest Game and The Dark House.

The series is also queer-themed and will feature drag queens. Lately, there has been some brilliant queer-themed content on Netflix like The Half of it or Heartstopper to name a few and looking at this series from Poland, the hopes are equally high. The series has been tagged as heartfelt and emotional, thus we can expect our emotions to get on a roller coaster ride while watching it.

The cast includes Andrzej Seweryn in the lead playing two characters at once of Sylwester and Loretta, Maria Peszek, Julia Chętnicka, Kova Réa, Antoni Porowski, Paweł Koślik, Henryk Niebudek, Piotr Witkowski, Keiona, Himera Drag Queen, Véronique Bisciglia, Bartlomiej Bobrowski, Lola Eyeonyou Potocki and Mariusz Zabkowski.

Queen Series Plot/Synopsis

Netflix’s synopsis of the series Queen (Królowa) reads as – After a decades-long absence, a renowned Parisian tailor and drag queen returns to his hometown in Poland to make amends with his daughter. In the trailer, we see that Sylwester is a tailor in Paris, who receives a letter from his granddaughter saying that her mother is in need of a kidney transplant and he is the only one who can help.

Leading that he goes back to Poland to help his daughter, but she is not amused to see her father who supposedly left them years ago. It is a family drama about a father-daughter relationship and how they make amends for their broken relationship. Moreover, it’s about expressing and accepting your true self in front of your loved ones, as Sylwester confesses about his drag persona.
