The episode starts with 2B and 9S formally getting introduced to the group of people residing on Earth called the Resistance. They are taken inside their camp, meeting the community’s leaders. Lily apologises to the androids for seeing them as threats and pointing a gun towards them during the fight.

During their brief conversation, it was mentioned that YoRHa has not responded to the Resistance for a long time. Then YoRHa’s leader reveals that they are not responding on purpose because they cannot comply with every request they make due to a lack of resources. Because of this incident, the relationship between YoRHa and Resistance has weakened.

Later, 2B and 9S are taken to a dangerous part of the area for inspection by Jackass. But as they reach the entrance, they are instantly attacked by a humongous machine. Both the androids fight vigorously to defeat the dangerous opponent. 9S finally takes down the enemy with his sword with the help of 2B and the pods.

Furthermore, they reach an enclosed space where several lifeless bodies of machines and androids are lying on the ground. Among them, 2B’s body is also found, which proves that previously she was deported to Earth and died fighting for the sake of humanity. They also find miniature machines imitating human behaviour.

Suddenly, many machines started to appear, and each one was seen walking towards the same destination. They surround a huge globe with their bodies, and a new android is formed there. 9S and 2B instantly sense the threat and kill it instantly. But to their surprise, the android is formed again and is headed to attack 2B.

NieR Automata Ver1.1a Episode 3 Review: Final Thoughts

The latest episode showcased new characters, which was refreshing and kept it interesting. The brief explanation of the characters and the backstory is integral to the plot. However, the slow-paced episode did not offer any compelling storyline to keep the audience engrossed. However, the last few minutes did introduce a new enemy, which the anime fans will be excited about.

The animation was amazing and gave us a captivating visual experience. The attention to detail and use of more 2D animation is highly appreciated. The background score also played a major role in further elevating the episode.
