As one of the most high-rated representative festivals of the nation, the 2023 Gyeryong Military Culture Festival kicked off a few days ago in Gyeryong-si, Chungcheongnam-do, along with the 2023 Army Festival, commenced its colourful action. K-pop fans have especially found another getaway with this event as it has reunited quite a few of their 3rd Generation favourites back on stage. Those lucky enough to see the festival unfold in person took to their X (formerly Twitter) accounts to share the one-of-a-kind concert-like extravaganza with others.
These videos have captured K-pop idols GOT7 Jinyoung, MONSTA X Minhyuk, Ha Sung-woon, Ong Seung-woo, ONEWE’s Yoonhoon, and others alongside Korean actor Nam Joo-hyuk, who’s also taken on the role of the show’s MC this year. This heavy, heartwarming dose of 2023 Military Festival Kpop interactions has particularly brought the fans of 3rd Generation Kpop groups and artists to tears as their deeply missed beloved idols have finally come together in the military (if not at the year-end award shows where they usually joined forces for special stage performances).
With the 4th and 5th Generation K-pop stars coming into focus, the spotlight has gradually moved its focus away from many 3rd Generation stars. Although the big hits of the golden age of K-pop are still very much in the picture, most of them are completing their mandatory military stints, so it has been nearly impossible for them to take the stage.
All of these year-end ceremonies, like the MAMA Awards and other events, used to boast of stellar lineups filled with the talents of 3rd Gen. boy group members, but that missing void has finally been filled with all these leading men performing old hits like GOT7’s Hard Carry and MONSTA X’s Shoot Out, along with busting a move to new age songs like NewJeans’ Super Shy, Jeon Somi’s Fast Forward and more.

GOT7 and MONSTA X members have been long-time friends, with both groups known for their infectious openness and camaraderie. While they’ve come together on countless occasions for K-pop shows and events, seeing Jinyoung and Minhyuk together in a never-seen avatar is hitting their fans in the feels. Joo-hyuk, whose upcoming K-drama Vigilante has already created a lot of buzz ahead of its release slated for November 2023, was also spotted in his “super shy” mode as his fans persuaded him to put on his dancing shoes.
