Episode 9 explores first love, the past, and the difficult choices that people make when they believe they can find happiness. The episode is titled “Do You Remember When We Fell in Love”, and it practically shows us how memories are not just nostalgia, but they are also a key to understanding someone’s present state. As we see Mi-do and Ho dive into their lives, we realise that sometimes ending a relationship doesn’t mean ending their love.

A Love Other Than Yours Episode 9 Review
Mi-do’s Struggle to Restart
Mi-do decides to quit filmmaking. Her mother, Sook-hee, refuses to accept her plan and warns that it will make her a loser. Though she sounds harsh, she states the reality. Namgung Ho steps between Mi-do and her mother, proving once again that he is trying to protect her. But this time, he is stepping away.
Mi-do’s new job gives her a chance to build a life, but it also humiliates her differently. Her younger colleagues order her around, and she feels pathetic. She breaks down to her mother at the bus stop, and her mother covers Mi-do’s bare ankles with her scarves, showing that she truly does care about her daughter. The scene reminds us that love is not always communicated perfectly, especially within families.

The Pain of Letting Go
Mi-do and Namgung Ho remove their rings and agree to let go. Their decision finally sounds mature, and they aren’t saying they will force themselves to move on, but let their feelings fade with the flow. Ho’s relationship with Su-a slowly develops through a one-month challenge. She promises to make her feelings for him fade away, and he requests that she reject him even if he proposes to her.
Their ten-second eye-contact exercise becomes a clever representation of emotional vulnerability. Su-a repeatedly looks away, revealing how difficult it is to hide her feelings and pretend like nothing is there. She confesses to him that he is her first love and tells him she wishes to be his happiest memory. However, we know Ho is still not over Mi-do, but as viewers, we’re rooting for Su-a.

Tae-seung and Pain
Tae-seung is honestly a troubling figure in this series. He takes Mi-do to the mansion and talks about the feeling of abandonment. He openly says that he is trying to win Mi-do through sympathy. He is full of strategies, and it shows how his traumatic experiences have shaped him.
His behaviour at the restaurant further exposes his possessiveness. Ripping apart the Polaroid of Mi-do and Ho shows he hates to see someone he likes with another person. At this point, I’m genuinely thinking that Mi-do is going to hate Tae-seung and return to Namgung Ho and instead of understanding Su-a’s true love, he is going to end up with Mi-do. For Mi-do, Ho seems like the comfort place to run to, but for Ho, he does have a comfort place who will treat him like an option. Hope he understands.

Grief, Parenthood, and Unfinished Healing
Wan-do’s search for Bo-ra’s music box offers another perspective on loss. He still holds on to the memory of when he promised to keep the object safe as the symbol of their love never fading away. Namgung gives himself 5 days to continue searching for something of Mi-do, and it shows his grief.
Meanwhile, Namgung’s confrontation with Hwa-young over Sol reveals a protective side shaped by painful memories. His resentment toward his mother, especially his saying he regrets being saved, shows he has unresolved wounds. But his fight to protect his half-brother is truly because he doesn’t want him to go through what he went through.
Final Verdict

The final flashback shows the episode’s core. Sook-hee is seen grieving her husband at the beach with a young Namgung Ho standing nearby and seeing Mi-do at her weakest. It shows his connection to his protective nature over Mi-do. As they have both seen each other at their weakest and shared in each other’s trauma, we can see how much it has affected them both.
Episode 9 succeeds by showing that love is never isolated from family, trauma, or memory. Mi-do and Namgung may attempt to move forward, but their past continues to shape every decision.
