Yoon Yi-jun: The Rich Arrogant Heir
Yi-jun isn’t a typical rich heir who’s humble and charming. He’s introduced as a controlling, comical person who thinks everything is about him. His wish to know all the details and to control everything around him shows that he has been living a life where the world worked for him.
Honestly, kudos to Yim Si-wan, for he made the character work really well. Instead of portraying Yi-jun as an arrogant guy (which he is), he makes sure to add some odd actions to make his character seem funny and entertaining. Though Yu-jun’s behaviour is frustrating, with Si-wan’s acting and the amazing costumes that he wears, he isn’t unlikeable after all.
Kang Jae-hee: A Police Officer with No Time to Lose
Seol In-ah brings confidence and presence to Kang Jae-hee. All that Jae-hee has to do is enter the arrogant brat’s world without affecting her disguise. Her goal is to observe him and earn her place within his professional zone so she can investigate the murder case. It’s not easy to make that funny guy trust someone; hence, as Jae-hee, she believes she can break his walls and find the truth.
The best part is that even though Yi-jun loves controlling around, Jae-hee sets the perfect boundaries. There and here, the comedy scenes peak whenever a threat to her disguise arrives. Overall, as Jae-hee, Seol In-ah did a fantastic job in the premiere. As the protagonist, seeing her navigate through humour and action, I can already sense a good series.
Comedy Outshines Logic
First of all, this is a rom-com, so expecting logic is a far stretch. We all do know that in a big company, when someone is getting recruited, the background verification is extreme and strict. However, our Jae-hee gets in as the secretary pretty easily in her disguise. Well, that’s the whole point, though, because it’s a comedy series, so let’s keep the logic out.
Moreover, the Taekang company is pretty famous, and to have a rich brat running it… Yep, it’s illogical. Who will allow such a man to run a huge corporation? But here we are; he does run it, and it’s lovely to watch. The premiere episode’s 1-hour length might make some viewers feel that it’s too long, but with a good amount of comedy, it is surely working.
The Murder Mystery
Given it is a romantic comedy, having a murder mystery plot feels so random and unique. Jae-hee has to find the truth about Yi-jun. Is Yi-jun hiding a whole personality behind his fake brat attitude? Could be.
This creates an intriguing reversal. While she believes she is observing him, Yi-jun is also watching her. He is definitely clever if he has hidden the murder chaos beneath his whole new visage. They are both observing each other and eventually will fall in love. Now that’s a thrill!
However, the challenge for the series will be maintaining this balance. With the murder mystery on one side, romance on the other and comedy coming here and there, the series must develop the whole plot without complicating anything. If it does, this series will become one of 2026’s best ones.
Final Thoughts
Love in Disguise Episode 1 succeeds with its unique plot and the characters who have great personality traits. Yi-jun is funny, rich and is connected to a murder mystery. Jae-hee is a female cop dressed as a man and works in Yi-jun’s company to observe him. With such a serious plot, we have some comedy going on and a romance that’s incoming. This series is already giving us a lot.
If the drama can sustain that chemistry while giving its murder investigation genuine weight, this disguise could become a very entertaining game.
