After last week’s episode ended pretty much with a heavy ending, this episode lightens it up. Episode 9 doesn’t have any emergency cliffhangers or a heartbreaking end; it carries a balance between love and trauma. There are still plenty of patients to treat, but this chapter belongs to love and understanding Ji-ui’s deepest scars.

Finally, Some Happiness for Our Main Couple
Ji-ui and Ha-ri are officially back together, yay! And it’s honestly adorable watching them act like a proper couple instead of bickering with each other or tearfully breaking up. The chemistry between them feels real and natural. The funniest part is how, except for Chi-yeon, everyone around them thinks they’ve broken up. In fact, Ju-cheon even teases how Ji-ui got dumped.
The best part about the drama is how wisely it avoids another love triangle. Chi-yeon simply accepts it, which feels surprisingly mature and refreshing. Of course, every time Ji-ui and Ha-ri try to enjoy some alone time, something or someone interrupts them. It’s a pretty comical thing that goes throughout the episode, and it surprisingly cracks me up.

Ju-cheon and Jeong-seon Steal the Show
Though Ha-ri and Ji-ui are the sweet main leads, Ju-cheon and Jeong-seon stole this episode’s highlight. Poor Ju-cheon spends almost the entire episode thinking to himself that Jeong-seon has another man in her life. Seeing her spend time with another man completely throws him off, and his jealousy becomes increasingly impossible to hide.
What makes these scenes so entertaining is how badly they both communicate their feelings. Ju-cheon keeps vaguely confessing his feelings, whilst Jeong-seon shuts him down, thinking he doesn’t have any serious feelings for her. Their awkward conversations create some genuinely hilarious moments.
Then comes the biggest and funniest reveal. The mysterious man isn’t Jeong-seon’s boyfriend at all. Yep, he’s her half-brother. Once Ju-cheon realises how foolish he’s been, he finally gathers the courage to confess properly, giving viewers one of the episode’s most satisfying scenes.
A Difficult Moral Question
Away from the romance, the medical storyline comes with an ethical dilemma. Ji-ui and Ha-ri visit another part of the island to treat several elderly women who have fallen sick. Later, the duo discover that the grannies recently received IV injections from a former nurse. Technically, what she did is illegal, and Ji-ui initially wants to report her immediately.
However, the villager guy begs him not to. He reasons out, saying that healthcare access on the island is incredibly limited, and the ex-nurse has spent years helping people who otherwise had nobody to turn to. So turning her in can lead to more deaths. Ji-ui sympathises with the villagers, but Chi-yeon ultimately reports the situation to the police anyway, believing that allowing unlicensed treatment could cause a tragedy.
Ji-ui’s Past Finally Comes Into Focus
The emotional highlight finally arrives as the episode comes to an end. Throughout the series, Ji-ui’s fear of the sea has remained something of a mystery. Episode 9 finally explains why. The flashback begins with a happy memory between Ji-ui and his fiancée. But everything collapses the moment they both find Seonu by the shore, unconscious. After failing to save him, Ji-ui’s life collapses.
His engagement falls apart, the woman he loved leaves his life, and he is left carrying the guilt and enduring isolation. The episode ends on a comforting note as Ha-ri gently asks about his fear. Instead of hiding behind silence, Ji-ui finally opens up, and Ha-ri simply hugs him, asking him to lean on her from now on.
Comedy Scenes Add Warmth
Despite the heavier themes, Episode 9 never forgets to have fun. The drunk patient, who repeatedly dislocated his jaw right after Ji-ui fixed it, was hilarious. Despite Chi-yeon asking the patient to stop yelling, he keeps repeating it, only for the doctors to fix it again and again. This scene was pretty funny.
Final Thoughts
Episode 9 seems to have a good pace, and it covers the main mystery. Instead of dramatic surgeries, we see a quiet island, a sickness amidst the old people, their need for healthcare, illegal treatments, humanity and some painful flashbacks.
Ji-ui’s heartbreaking backstory and Ha-ri continuing to prove how wonderful she is make this episode stand out. Most importantly, Ju-cheon and Jeong-seon’s romance unexpectedly steals the spotlight with equal parts comedy and heart.
