Lock Upp Season 2 Episode 3 Review: A Brutal Immunity Twist Delivers Emotional Fallout, But Little Else

After an interesting game of paintball that divided the house, Lock Upp Season 2 Episode 3 arrives with a rather understated episode where the name of the game is ‘kalesh.’ As contestants fight among each other over petty issues, viewers must wonder where the episodes will go from here and whether or not these are the types of secrets we have to look forward to. With manipulation being the core point of discussion in this episode, the contestants are tested on their loyalties, as who they trust gets questioned.

The task explores the psychological nature of the game and makes it known that there are consequences to inaction as well; however, the episode remains largely uneventful as we see familiar confrontations that don’t add anything to the momentum.

An Immunity Task That Forces Loyalty to Take a Back Seat

The highlight of the episode was the immunity task that makes contestants who hold their cellmates’ secrets choose whether or not they will expose them to gain immunity for the week. The turn of events is surprising, especially since this is just the first week and losing this leverage seems like a bad decision. However, Sunita Ahuja, Dheeraj Dhoopar, Sufi Motiwala, Pamela Sarena and Riyaz Aly all jump at the opportunity to break the others’ trust and gain immunity.

The build-up to the exposé is tense, and the Netflix show effectively creates suspense about who will be blamed. Since only one of them can win the immunity, they have no option but to vote, highlighting how none of them thought for a second to protect their cellmates. It proves that the game is already cut-throat and no one will cut slack for anyone.

In the end, it’s Sunita who chooses to expose Akanksha’s secret, although afterwards, the tension sort of falls flat as her confession doesn’t seem to be as sizzling as was made out to be. It definitely brought down the mood for viewers, who probably wanted something more shocking than Yogesh propositioning her during the Splitsvilla finale and getting rejected.

Emotional Consequences Feel More Genuine Than the Arguments

The aftermath of this revelation, however, is deeply emotional, as Chaudhary is overcome by emotion and clearly struggling with the backlash she received after Splitsvilla. On one hand, the entire thing seems immature, but the genuine reaction from her changes the mood as she seems afraid of the consequences that will follow. It feels like a genuinely vulnerable moment, although it is difficult to believe that something like this could affect someone so much.

Either way, it highlights that the game isn’t just about strategy and physical play but also about the emotional toll of being willing to sacrifice oneself in pursuit of victory.

The Same Rivalries Continue to Dominate

This emotional fallout, however, results in another round of unnecessary fighting between Akanksha and Shreya. The sequence is tried and tested and done to death already in the two episodes that have released. While Kalra wanted to have a proper conversation, Chaudhary is less open to it and, as a result, the two have a terrible spat with one another. The repeated exchanges lose impact as both of them say the same thing over and over again.

Meanwhile, the connection between Yogesh and Akanksha is also another work in progress, although not as explosive. Yogesh continues to fight for her affection, while Akanksha remains guarded and refuses to encourage, fearing more backlash. The dynamic hints at unresolved tension, and although the narrative doesn’t move beyond that, it highlights the fact that the series is making good use of a storyline that fans are eagerly waiting to get to the bottom of.

Riteish Deshmukh Reminds Everyone the Game Has Only Begun

In the end, Deshmukh reminds contestants that they must fight for one another and try to get to the bottom of the various decisions that contestants are making. Immunity is not guaranteed in the game, and thus, they must fight to be saved every week instead of letting others push them around. He also exposes some things that were said during the game, which are quite obvious if you look at it from a strategy perspective, but people get extremely hung up over them. It’s a bit confusing and silly.

Final Verdict

In the end, the episode was quite a downer as it didn’t have any interesting tasks, and the immunity task was quite disappointing after Akanksha’s secret was exposed. The conflicts are stale and forced and, most of all, extremely immature. While conflict is the most TRP-selling aspect of reality TV, it has to be about something interesting. We don’t see that on the show as of yet. Plus, the episode was also quite formulaic and didn’t have anything to keep viewers hooked. Overall, a disappointment.
