The Perfect Lie Episode 2 Review

Jun-ho and Ji-seon’s Conflicting Stories Turn a Troubling Night Into a Mystery
The mystery thickens after both Jun-ho and Ji-seon recount what exactly happened the previous night. Jun-ho says everything was consensual. He was apparently lured into the case by Ji-seon, who initiated the first move. Ji-seon, on the other hand, strongly disagreed, as she said that it was Jun-ho who tried to kiss her in the first place.
Jun-ho Claims Ji-seon Took Him to Her Room, but She Remembers Things Differently

After the kiss happened, Jun-ho claimed she then took him to her room, where they then spent the night together. This was completely rejected by Ji-seon, who said that she doesn’t remember anything clearly. Both statements are so far apart that the police have a hard time believing one or the other. Things might look in favour of Ji-seon, but there is no incriminating evidence against Jun-ho that could prove that he did something wrong.
In such a situation, Jun-ho is shown to go through a sense of betrayal because he was reportedly genuinely in love with Ji-seon. On the other hand, Ji-seon goes through exceptional despair because she did not want any physical intimacy, by her accounts, yet had to go through such a situation.

Jun-ho Sticks to His Story, but Can We Trust His Version of Events?
This story is very much a slow burn because you never know whom to trust. Yes, there is a high chance that it was Jun-ho who is the culprit; however, from his point of view, he stays firm that he did nothing wrong. Throughout the episode, Jun-ho constantly says the same thing. He was very much interested in Ji-seon and engaged in intimacy purely out of love and with consent. He even told his son that he thought Ji-seon could become a good mother for him. On top of that, police officers also did not find any drugs in Ji-seon’s system, making it highly unlikely for Jun-ho to drug her and then take advantage of her.

Even then, one asks why Ji-seon would lie in the first place. She was not in it for the money, and it looked like she was genuinely interested in Jun-ho at least in the beginning. So what could have prompted both of these characters to lie about such a thing?
Final Thoughts

The series does an extremely good job of not giving the audience any hints whatsoever. You see the perspectives of both Jun-ho and Ji-seon and are left to judge them for yourself. From the way Jun-ho acts, he doesn’t seem like a guilty man at all. Rather, he comes across as a victim who feels wronged by a woman he was genuinely attracted to. What’s sinister about this is that if he is indeed a deviant, as Ji-seon claims, he is a master manipulator and an absolute psychopath for fooling everyone, including the audience.
