Everything to Know About The Remarried Empress: Jo Soo-won’s 10-Episode Series Adapted From Alphatart’s Work

Everything to Know About The Remarried Empress: Starring Shin Min-a, Lee Jong-suk, and Ju Ji-hoon, The Remarried Empress is a Korean Drama Series engaging in fantasy romance and bringing a popular fantasy story to live action. With royal marriages, infidelity, complicated relationships, political tensions and a female protagonist who refuses to let someone else’s decisions dictate her future, the series engages in multiple aspects.

This South Korean series follows Empress Navier, whose seemingly stable marriage and position in the Eastern Empire begin to crumble after her husband brings another woman into their lives. However, Navier does not submit and accept the situation, and responds to her husband in a different way altogether.

Everything to Know About The Remarried Empress: What Is It About?

At the centre of The Remarried Empress reportedly is Empress Navier, the Empress of the Eastern Empire, praised for her intelligence, composure and elegance. She has spent much of her life alongside Emperor Sovieshu, sharing the goal of creating a great country. Navier does not love Sovieshu romantically, but she considers him family and a close friend. Their relationship and the entire arrangement are therefore built around companionship, responsibility and the future around the country they dream of creating together.

Things become unpleasant when Sovieshu brings Rashta, a runaway slave, into the palace and makes her his mistress. The situation becomes hurtful because of the promise that Sovieshu had previously made to Navier that he would never take a concubine. Meanwhile, Prince Heinrey enters the picture with somewhat unusual circumstances. The clan he belongs to reportedly has a rather obnoxious ability to transform into a bird, and using his ability, Heinrey travels to the Eastern Empire, encounters Navier and gradually falls in love.

Sovieshu sends a divorce notice as he falls in love with Rashta but Navier does not accept the notice and rather asks for his permission to remarry Prince Heinrey of the Western Kingdom.

The Remarried Empress Cast

The ensemble for the series includes familiar faces from the Korean entertainment industry taking on the central characters, and the series has a long lineup. Shin Min-a plays Navier, the intelligent and composed Empress of the Eastern Empire. Ju Ji-hoon plays Sovieshu, the Emperor of the Eastern Empire and Navier’s husband, while Lee Se-yeong plays Rashta Isqua, the runaway slave for whom Sovieshu falls. Lee Jong-suk plays Heinrey, the prince of the Western Kingdom.

The cast ensemble also includes Lee Bong-ryun, Choi Dae-hoon, Park Ho-san, Jung Young-joo, Mitch Craig, Nam Yoon Ho, Lee Jun-hyuk, and Kang Han-na, among others. The cast brings the Eastern Empire and Western Kingdom to the screen.

Who Is Behind The Remarried Empress?

The series is directed by Jo Soo-Won, whose previous work includes I Can Hear Your Voice, Pinocchio and Still 17. The writing of The Remarried Empress is credited to Yeoh Geena, Choong-yeol Hyun and Ji Na Yeo. The production adapts the popular fantasy webtoon written by Alphatart, adapted by HereLee, and illustrated by Sumpul.

For the readers unfamiliar with the source material, at the centre of the narrative is love, power, betrayal and remarriage.

The Remarried Empress Release Date and Episode Schedule

The Remarried Empress reportedly premiered on November 3, 2026, on Disney+ and Hulu, a day prior to the actual scheduled date, November 4, 2026. Thus, the premiere seems to have moved forward by a day following the positive responses at the Busan International Film Festival, reportedly.

The series has 10 episodes in total, with the first four released together on premiere day and the remaining to follow a two-episode weekly pattern, with the finale episodes to arrive on November 25.

Why Is It Worth Keeping on Your Watchlist?

The appeal of The Remarried Empress is not difficult to understand. It centres around the familiar royal setup and gives its central woman a story that does not end with her husband’s decision to choose someone else. Naiver is not introduced as someone desperately looking to keep her marriage but has an established identity, responsibilities and ambitions of her own.

The series is a fantasy romance about a woman refusing to let the man’s choice become the final word on her life, and if the idea of an empress turning divorce into an opportunity to marry a prince from the rival kingdom sounds like your idea of fantasy television to binge-watch, this is the one for your November watchlist.
