Despite Min-ju’s initial attempts to brush her off, Young Ju is undeterred, showing resilience and a sense of humor that gradually softens his gruff exterior. After a long day, however, Min-ju insists she should leave, hoping to send her on her way. But Young Ju stands her ground, refusing to be easily dismissed.

Later, Young Ju heads to the village bar and, feeling somewhat defeated, has a drink to unwind. Seeing her alone, the village head gets concerned and calls Min-ju, who is surprised to find her drinking in the bar so early in the day. Noticing the pair’s budding connection, local ladies Go Suk Ja and Shim Young Ja decide to play matchmaker, hoping to bring them closer together. They come up with a plan and ask Young Ju to gather some herbs from the mountains, then send Min-ju to check on her. Min-ju obliges and, while searching for her, realizes he’s genuinely worried about her well-being. When he finds her safe, he’s visibly relieved, and they sit down for a heartfelt conversation that reveals more about their pasts.

As they share stories, Young Ju expresses her intention to spend the night on the mountain, which Min Ju reluctantly accepts. She eventually asks him why he’s been so cold towards her, prompting him to open up about his difficult childhood. He explains that his father, a strict military man, had always expected him to be tough and resilient, a “strong son” who could live up to his legacy. Min Ju, however, is more sensitive by nature, and his father’s constant demands and criticisms left him feeling isolated and misunderstood. Young Ju listens compassionately, offering words of comfort that bring them closer and help Min Ju feel understood in a way he hadn’t before.

The plot thickens when a new character, Bang A Reum, arrives on the scene, creating a brewing rivalry with Young Ju. Both women are intent on convincing Min Ju to join their respective liquor companies, though their approaches are starkly different. While Young Ju works hard to earn the villagers’ trust, A Reum takes a less honest path, sowing doubt about Young Ju’s intentions. She manipulates the villagers into thinking that Young Ju’s goal is to take Min Ju away from them, which quickly turns the whole community against her.

Upon returning from the mountain, Young Ju is met with hostility from the villagers, who have been misled by A Reum’s tricks. They accuse her of planning to lure Min Ju away from their village, casting her as an outsider who’s come to disrupt their way of life. However, Min Ju stands by her side, defending her against the villagers and showing his loyalty to her, even in the face of mounting opposition. This moment of solidarity between them seems to mark a turning point in their relationship, suggesting that they may be at the start of a new journey together—one that could see them overcoming obstacles not just from within themselves, but from outside forces as well.
