– Big Mouth Episode 9 Recap Contains Spoilers –
Big Mouth episode 9 starts with Chang-ho being a total boss and predicting with shocking precision exactly what will happen during the trial, right up to which evidence they will bring forth from both the prosecution and defence.
As the news spreads about Big Mouse’s involvement and “fortune telling,” Ji-hoon is absolutely fuming. Until then, things were pretty much going their way. At recess, Ji-hoon and his minions realise that they are unable to find Chang-ho, and after a verbal spat with Do-ha, Hye-jin asks Ji-hoon to meet him as soon as possible with the divorce documents.
Obviously, Jae-ho refuses to divorce her, but Ji-hoon reminds him that doing anything like that will guarantee all of their deaths. Ji-hoon meets Hye-jin after that to hand over the divorce agreement in exchange for Jae-young’s papers. The thing goes by rather smoothly, which is honestly shocking, and Ji-hoon furthermore learns of Chang-ho’s location where he sends the cops to arrest him.

After the Three Musketeers get acquitted on the grounds of insufficient evidence, just as Chang-ho predicted, the police end up at the wrong warehouse, and the papers that Ji-hoon gets from Hye-jin turn out to not be the real ones.
Outside the courtroom, as reporters flock around the Three Musketeers and the prosecutor, a large truck containing a screen halts in front of them wherein they show Chang-ho talking about what Jae-young’s papers are about – and to prove his claims, he shows the interaction between Ji-hoon and Hye-jin in the cafe. Everyone is shocked at where this is going, especially when Ji-hoon tells Hye-jin that the three of them didn’t kill Jae-young for a random academic paper.
When Ji-hoon finally learns about the camera, he immediately gets rid of it by… putting it in his mouth, and Hye-jin simply tells him to keep it. The biggest boss move is when the screen goes up in front of the courtroom, and Chang-ho is revealed to be sitting behind it, looking fine as heck. Mi-ho, watching her husband being a total badass.
Unfortunately, though, Soon-tae, Gi-gwang and Hye-jin are being beaten to a pulp, and just as Ji-hoon tries to take Hye-jin with him forcefully, Do-ha arrives and helps the three of them get out of a tough situation. Afterwards, the mayor helps Hye-jin get to the airport, and as Chang-ho gets taken to prison, his family meets him outside the courtroom in front of the press and gives him a hug after assuring him that they can get over this predicament together.

Unfortunately for the Three Musketeers, though, they get reincarcerated again, and Joong-rak gets removed from the Jae-young murder case as well. Things really aren’t looking up for any of them, and Ji-hoon takes the defeat as a personal insult. One more good thing to have come out of this mess is that Chang-ho gets to know that Jerry is alive, and although Soon-tae leaves a message for him, someone working for Big Mouse takes the message away and gives him another one in exchange.
We aren’t sure of what the new message reads, but Jerry doesn’t seem to be too happy after reading it. At the prison, Chang-ho, Chun-sik and No Park fill Chang-ho in on what has been happening in prison, but the conversation surrounding the ghost disease is cut short when Ji-hoon comes to meet Chang-ho. Curiously, Ji-hoon asks him to invest in a property that he is building to give him back the money that he stole.
Chang-ho laughs and tells him that he’s definitely going to send him to jail as well for assisting in Jae-young’s murder. Finding it amusing, Ji-hoon tells him that he didn’t tell Chae-bong anything and that Chang-ho should really find out who called Chae-bong that night. Well, that must have put so many thoughts in Chang-ho’s mind!

Do-ha, meanwhile, brings Jae-young’s paper to the Elder, and as the Three Musketeers stand there, they are totally embarrassed. Unfortunately for all Do-ha fans out there, it comes to light outside the Elder’s house that our favourite mayor is involved in this mess as well but he’s been thorough and has removed traces of his involvement from the mess. As he leaves, he mentions that he needs to be spotless for all of them to see the light of day.
That night, Joo-hee, upon meeting the Elder, gets to know that Do-ha will be chosen as the future. Joo-hee doesn’t look that happy.
However, the biggest shock comes to us viewers when we learn that Do-ha was behind it all – he has the money, Jae-young’s papers and orchestrated this entire thing – but for what? There’s definitely a revenge angle somewhere. We’ll just have to wait to know the answers to all of these myriad questions.
That night, Chang-ho goes to the confession room to leave a note for the all-seeing Big Mouse – that he has helped him enough and has come close to death several times. However, if he doesn’t give him sure proof of Jae-young’s papers and what it contains, his help ends there. On his way back to his room, he sees a bunch of people getting escorted out to some sort of work for which only model patients are allowed.

The next day at Gucheon University Hospital, Mi-ho learns that all of the previous patients were discharged and new patients are on their way. She gets ushered off to meet Joo-hee soon, but before that, she spots a bunch of blood work results being printed, and she remembers the blood tests that were done on the patients the last time to went to the penitentiary.
At Joo-hee’s office, she is handed the blood report of Nam Ki-sung that she had submitted in the last episode, and apart from Ki-sung being RH+, nothing seems to be out of order. She agrees to apologise to the patient’s family, but Joo-hee asks her to resign and that they will submit a formal complaint against her. Outside the office, however, it seems like Mi-ho is amused by something but there’s no time to dwell on that since she immediately gets a call from Do-ha.

When they meet later, Do-ha asks whether she wants him to talk to Joo-hee about her employment, but she doesn’t look very concerned about it. He further asks her whether Hye-jin told her anything about the papers, but Mi-ho says that she didn’t but that she trusts Hye-jin. There’s tension in the air as these two converses, with both of them being really good at hiding things and one-upping the other.
Back at the prison, the nurses from Gucheon University Hospital are back, funnelling odd medicines to the prisoners. As chaos ensues in the hall after one of the prisoners collapses, Chang-ho goes to meet Big Mouse at the scheduled time. Meanwhile, Mi-ho also pays a visit to Jerry in the hospital, but he’s nowhere to be seen. Back at the prison, Chang-ho’s wait is finally over as Big Mouse makes his entrance.
Chang-ho is clearly rather tense as he waits to meet Big Mouse face to face and looks bemusedly at whoever is standing in front of him.
Big Mouth Episode 9 Review

What a good episode, guys! I knew Do-ha had more to do here than we were being told, and I am so glad to see him more. However, is he really the worst person out there? It seems like he’s plotting something more than what we are getting to know at the moment, and it’s honestly so good.
Do I wish for the series to hold on to the truth behind Big Mouse a little longer? Maybe. But I am excited to watch why Do-ha is going so deep into this. What happened to this guy?!
It’s going to be really shocking if there’s another twist and he, too, is being used by “the real” Big Mouse. But then again, would Big Mouse be this less careful and tell someone the location of the money and the proof of this ticking time bomb?
Anything can happen, but my mind would be blown if it did happen.
Moving on to Chang-ho – guys, how cool did he look sitting in that random van in front of the courtroom? The way he casually climbs down and walks towards the Three Musketeers is hilarious as it is a moment of win for the audience and Mi-ho, who beams on from the side!
Mi-ho got less time in this episode, which is fine; it was Chang-ho’s moment to shine. Hope to see more of her in the next episode, though! Plus, is anyone else getting major vibes from Do-ha whenever he’s around Mi-ho? He almost has puppy-dog eyes, and I don’t blame him. But still – does he love Joo-hee, or is she the means to the end? He did talk about having kids with her, so that would be sucky if he were lying.
Regardless, this is an excellent episode with one major revelation after another. But I am pretty sure we’re going to see some major plots getting tossed around in the next episode!
Check out the series on Disney+ and on MBC.
