Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead Episode 5 Review- Hero

Akira Shizuka Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead Episode 5

Hi! Welcome back! It’s been a bit, hasn’t it? This happens from time to time, from new studios and old ones. Production issues of this kind harm new and established shows severely, as you risk losing the audience that you had if they decide it is not worth the effort to come back every week just to check if an episode dropped. It is not even as if this episode was anything particularly special or of a higher quality than the ones that came before it, thus adding to the time it took to produce it.

We saw Akira have a dream of a literal and figurative kind as he remembered how he wanted to be a hero and save people when he was a child. It was a dream fitting for a kid to have, but not an adult, as displayed by Kencho’s funny and incredulous face when Akira told him he wanted to turn that dream into reality. Hey, if it is on the bucket list, it has to be done. It doesn’t matter if you just wrote it down on there 15 seconds ago. If it is on there, Akira will make sure to give it a fighting effort.

If you’ve ever wondered why people in zombie scenarios never wear armour to ensure they don’t get bit, wonder no more! This show has people smart enough that do it! Not just any old armour, either! Akira actually thinks things out thoroughly and gets a shark-repellant swim-suit, fashioning it to be his superhero costume. This level of thinking and writing is what differentiates him from other protagonists of zombie shows and makes it one of the standout things about this series in general. The writing here is of the kind that doesn’t give you much to poke holes at, which is very much appreciated.

Akira’s second encounter with the girl he met in episode 2, whom we now know is called Shizuka, went better than his first, though not by much. Her pragmatic manner of thinking conflicts with Akira’s Devil-may-care attitude towards his own life. It makes sense that someone like her isn’t going to understand what makes Akira want to save other people. She doesn’t have the appreciation of life that he does, nor does she have the newfound zest for life that can only be obtained after coming back from the brink of suicide as he did.

This was a fine set-pice of an episode that featured Akira and Kencho dealing with creatures more dangerous than they’ve dealt with before. Get this- imagine zombies, but fishes! This also has deeper implications than we realise, as it appears that this virus is a kind that also takes down other creatures with it. Shizuka seemed less likeable here than she did in her first outing, as once again, her pragmatic nature conflicted with Akira, but this time, his ideology seemed to come out on the better side.

Verdict

Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead Episode 5 was a fun set-piece of an episode that featured a lot of logical thinking and throwing your life away despite that. Who can hate something like that?
