Welcome to Wedding Hell episode 8 starts with our queen Hui-seon being swooned by Min-woo. The former hates his overboard nature and tells him to slow down before she completely cuts him out. Ah, what a great moment of win for us!

Meanwhile, Na-eun reminds Jun-hyeong that the wedding gifts are supposed to arrive by 6 PM and that he cannot be late for it. He assures her that he will be on time but is stuck in a meeting in the evening. He leaves by 5.30 and reminds himself that if he’s late one more time because of work, then he will be going to his funeral instead of his wedding.
As he rushes home, he remembers the conversation that he had had with Na-eun about moving to a house and, thus, getting a house before the wedding. Although their target is buying a house, it’s difficult to do that since his own house isn’t selling. As Na-eun advises them to simply find a house which would require a lesser deposit, he says that they can also move to his house. Na-eun, annoyed with the suggestion, reminds him that it would take her thrice the amount of time to travel for work if she lived there and to think a little before giving out ideas.

It turns out that work has been really hampering his wedding planning with Na-eun and thus, he rushes back home in order to not get an earful from her. In the end, he does get home late and by the time he goes inside, his parents have already opened the wedding gifts. However, they seem to like what they got and the conversation steers toward their wedding home and decorating it.
Through this conversation, it turns out that Jun-hyeong hasn’t, in fact, decorated his house and it was all his mother – something that Na-eun has been banking on taking his help. And thus, through another lack of communication, Jun-hyeong’s mother is roped into helping Na-eun in selecting the furniture for her house. When she mentions this to her friends, they both warn her that taking the mother-in-law is a bad idea and that she will nag her and interfere in her life and decisions.
Su-yeon and Hui-seon giving a fool-proof plan to Na-eun is probably the highlight of this episode!
Anyway, as Jun-hyeong gets an earful from Min-woo for calling his mother to shop for furniture with them, Na-eun gets overwhelmed with the interior styles that her mother-in-law sends her. On the day of, Na-eun’s choice of a bed that she has been looking at for months, gets steam-rolled by her mother-in-law who tells her not to get something so difficult to manage. It’s a good point and extremely practical, but Na-eun feels like she’s out shopping with her boss where she has to make them happy.

To her credit, she does take Jun-hyeong aside and talk to him about it and Jun-hyeong agrees to take her fiancee’s side. When his mother brings up that they should not buy a dishwasher before buying a house, Jun-hyeong does speak up for Na-eun but when his mother directly asks her, she takes up Su-yeon’s silly advice and tells her what she wants, asking her what she should do since their opinions differ. This puts his mother in a spot and she awkwardly tells her to get it if she wants to.
After the incident repeats, Jun-hyeong asks her mother to stop trying to push her ideas on them since it’s making them uncomfortable. That takes his mother by surprise and she starts to berate him for speaking to her this way. Jun-hyeong tries to apologise to his mother but gets caught in between the two women in his life. His mother then decides to leave the two to shop, leaving Jun-hyeong and Na-eun to fight in the store resulting in nothing being bought. Na-eun asks him to go home and make up with his mother and she will figure out what to do with the furniture.

That night, he meets Min-woo and vents out his frustrations – he’s tired of always apologising to her and even then things don’t get better. However, in spite of the anger, it’s clear that Jun-hyeong still does miss Na-eun a lot and so does the latter. At home, Na-eun speaks to her father, who tells her to let the anger slide and that Jun-hyeong must be feeling as bad as her.
Later, Jun-hyeong goes to meet his mother to apologise and mentions that he should be born as a soccer ball in next his next life because everyone seems to kick him around. However, he is sincere in his apologies and even takes defends Na-eun in front of his mother. The episode ends with Jun-hyeong realising that marriage is very hard.
Welcome to Wedding Hell Episode 8 Review

Welcome to Wedding Hell really has me wishing Na-eun and Jun-hyeong get some much-needed couples counselling so that they can get on the same page regarding what they want. I feel like Na-eun constantly talks in circles instead of breaking down in simple words what she expects from her fiancé and from a situation. On the other hand, Jun-hyeong is too immature for all of this. It’s more glaring because they are almost 40, as I keep repeating, so you expect them to be mature. Alas. Also, that scene in the store with his mother is so cringy – I had second-hand embarrassment with the immaturity showcased by three fully-functioning adults.
I will be waiting for them to really seek professional help, instead of giving me a convenient end that wouldn’t make sense with the story arc.
Welcome to Wedding Hell is streaming on Netflix.
