Perfect Crown Episode 12 Review
Quick Recap
The finale begins with Yian becoming the King, and immediately after the ceremony, he informs Hee-ju of his plan to abolish the royal system once he has secured the nation’s stability. Jeong-woo, however, opposes this idea and makes the royal family rebel against Yian. Meanwhile, Yi-rang learns from her father that Jeong-woo is the reason behind the explosion in the council hall.
Jeong-woo doesn’t stop. He freezes the royal budget so that Yian will be pressured into changing his idea. However, Hee-ju and her family don’t back down. Castle Group funds the Royal Family. Right on time, Hee-ju exposes Jeong-woo in a royal meeting with a video recorded by Yi-rang. The truth about Yian’s best friend Jeong-woo being the main criminal leaves everyone devastated.

In the end, Yian lets the public decide and makes them vote whether they need a royal rule. All the nation’s people vote for the royal system to be abolished. Three years later, we see Hee-ju and Yian live a life like ordinary people, surrounded by their loved ones. The series ends with the couple kissing during a sports event, proving that love won.
Performance of the Cast
Stellar cast. Stellar performance. The last episode had all the characters give their maximum effort. IU, Byeon Woo-seok, Noh Sang-hyun and Gong Seung-yeon have really done a great job. Yian’s character was well portrayed by Woo-seok, as he effectively conveyed the exhaustion of a young man becoming a King and having to handle an entire country.

Likewise, IU as Hee-ju stood out to me the most. The way she balanced the boldness and vulnerability was top-notch. Noh Sang-hyun might look super innocent, but the way he presented the villain traits has to be appreciated. Likewise, Yi-rang, played by Seung-yeon, really outdid her role and made a mark for herself. Bravo!
Themes Explored
Finale is completely focused on freedom. Each and every character of this series wanted freedom. IU wanted to have an identity and free herself from the tag she carried: illegitimate child. Yian wanted to live a free life and not get tied to the royal responsibilities. Yi-rang wanted the best for her child and eventually realised that it was she who needed freedom from the greed. In the end, even the nation’s people got their freedom when the monarchy ended.

Such a powerful ending. Freedom was explored not just politically, but personally. The episode also highlights betrayal and loyalty. Jeong-woo’s downfall becomes especially tragic because he was once Yian’s closest friend. These sorts of betrayal subplots are relatable, as we all have mostly gone through such betrayals.
Direction and Editing
The direction in the finale has a great balance between raising the tension and closing with a sweet note. The royal scenes are all filled with intensity, as that’s where the series’s whole core relies. When the people vote against the monarchy, we see how much change occurs. The transition to three years later proves that freedom allows everyone, even rich people, to live their sweet life.

Visually, the finale shows the warmth of ordinary life after the monarchy ends. The sports event scene feels bright, relaxed, and symbolic of the freedom the characters fought for. The final kiss scene is simple yet heartwarming.
Flaws of the Episode
I don’t really want to point out too many flaws because the series did well enough for a Kdrama vibe. But if I had to, I’d point out the political conflicts that got solved too hastily. The revelation of Jeong-woo being the criminal for each and every sorrowful incident in the royal family feels a bit rushed. It deserves more screen time, more agony and a bitter end. But regardless, this end feels just fine, given this is a romance series.
Final Thoughts

Perfect Crown Episode 12 delivers a satisfying end. Instead of just ending with a happy ending inside the royal palace, we see the characters choosing their path and freeing themselves. The happiness they all get once they live a life just like fellow humans, proves that we are all equal in the end of the day.
By the end, Perfect Crown becomes more than just a royal romance as it becomes a story about choosing humanity over power.
