The Sandman Reactions: Netizens Blown Away By Uncanny Resemblance to Original Comics

The Sandman series has been finally released on Netflix and has everyone talking about it. Based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book series of the same name, from 1989–1996 published by DC Comics, is said to be an accurate adaptation on screen. It is developed by Gaiman himself, David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg.

And much of its appreciation goes to its stellar cast that includes Tom Sturridge as Morpheus / Dream, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, Charles Dance as Sir Roderick Burgess, Asim Chaudhry as Abel, Sanjeev Bhaskar as Cain, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Donna Preston as Despair and others.

The effort to adapt the comic series has been made since 1991 but could only be lifted out of the development stage in 2019 when Netflix signed the deal to create the series. And the anticipation by the comic fans instantly blew up the series with heaps of praise for the creators and the actors who played the characters brilliantly.

Viewers were in awe of Tom Sturridge’s transformation already from the released trailer and after watching the show, everyone approved of his Gothic alluring charm with the deep breathy voice and costume design. People especially liked the episode which features Dream’s sister played by Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death.

The episode made many emotional and called it a beautiful depiction while praising the actress who embodied it. Another character mentioned a lot is Johanna Constantine, which is a gender swap of the actual character ‘John Constantine’. So much so that people are asking for more of her appearance in the next season, if there is (?) and even a standalone series on just her life.

In the past few days, the OTT platform had been trending for cancelling many audience popular shows but with the release of this show, it might be of some help to revive the losses that occurred. The majority of critics and audience are liking the series so far, that it is urging them to buy the physical comics itself.
