The Princess: All About Disney+’s Upcoming Dark Fantasy Comedy Film

The Princess is an upcoming dark fantasy action comedy film which is set to be released on Disney+ and Hulu in July. It is directed by Le-Van Kiet and the screenplay is written by Ben Lustig & Jake Thornton (Final Fantasy). Produced by Neal H. Moritz ( of the Fast and Furious franchise), Toby Jaffe and Derek Kolstad (John Wick), with Joey King and Guy Riedel serving as executive producers.

The film seems like a combination of the Disney film Rapunzel and Gareth Evans’ modern martial arts film The Raid, where a hero fights his way through a building full of their enemies. It includes the popular trope of a princess trapped in a high-rising castle but with a modern twist. Instead of being rescued by some guy who climbs the castle, we might see our princess picking up the sword.

The Princess Cast

The cast includes Joey King as The Princess, Dominic Cooper as Julius, Olga Kurylenko as Moira, Veronica Ngo as Linh, Antoni Davidov as Merc Leader, Ed Stoppard as The King, Alex Reid as The Queen, Kristofer Kamiyasu as Khai, Fergus O’Donnell as Kurr, Katelyn Rose Downey as Violet and Vasil Toshev as Death Guard.

The Princess Plot/Synopsis

The synopsis of the film on IMDB reads – When a strong-willed princess refuses to wed the cruel sociopath, she is kidnapped and locked in a remote tower of her father’s castle. With her vindictive suitor intent on taking her father’s throne, the princess must save the kingdom.

In the trailer released by 20th Century studios, we could see our princess, played by Joey King, warning her attackers that they messed with the wrong princess. Her actions are termed as not lady-like behaviour, as she takes on anyone who comes her way and throws them down on the ground.

The Princess Release Date and Trailer

The film is scheduled to be released on 1 July 2022 on Disney+ and Hulu. Check out the trailer below.
