The Kelly Clarkson Show Wins Emmys After the Curtain Call, While Koffee With Karan Is in Its Final Season: Are We Saying Goodbye to Traditional Talk Shows?

The Kelly Clarkson Show concluded in August 2026 and with the conclusion has swept the Daytime Emmy Awards 2026 with five wins adding to its seven-year journey. With the end of the show and the simultaneous wins, we are, in fact, forced to look at the larger realm of traditional talk shows. Koffee With Karan and The Kelly Clarkson Show had two different formats and industries to cater to.

Both the shows have nevertheless managed to become familiar amongst the audience, and that is perhaps the more interesting line of connection between them. The timing is particularly interesting as The Kelly Clarkson Show concluded after seven seasons, with its finale episode airing on August 31, 2026, while Koffee with Karan is in its final season, which premiered on October 14, 2026. After eight seasons, the filmmaker is ready to say goodbye to his celebrity talk show with Season 9.

The Kelly Clarkson Show Wins Emmys

Just when the fans were preparing to be used to the void, The Kelly Clarkson Show had another series of achievements to add to its already filled award shelf. At the 53rd Daytime Emmy Awards, the show received five awards, including Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.

Two Different Approaches that Audiences Recognise

The two shows are not interchangeable! The Kelly Clarkson Show never depended entirely on celebrity gossip and moved between celebrity interviews, music, and conversations and stories about individuals doing meaningful things. The opening Kellyoke segment where Clarkson performed covers became a very recognisable aspect of the show.

On the other hand, there is Karan Johar, who brought two celebrities to the infamous Koffee couch for each episode. The conversations travelled from relationships, professional rivalries, friendships, to dating histories, films or whatever was happening in Bollywood at the time. The show brought rapid-fire rounds, gossip, and occasional discomfort as a part of the overall experience.

The two hosts approached the show very differently and had their own styles of interviewing, but the two worked so well, perhaps because the hosts understood what their respective audience expected.

We Keep Coming Back

Perhaps the biggest reason certain talk shows become part of people’s regular viewing habit is not directly the guest in the episode but about knowing what the host would bring in and the familiarity the hosts create, thereby tying the audience to the larger show itself.

The Kelly Clarkson Show had an almost predictable comfort in watching, while with Koffee With Karan, you knew the rapid-fire round was coming, which spilt extra tea oftentimes. The format gave the viewers something to anticipate even when they were not particularly interested in the guests, and the familiarity is not restricted to the people who watched these shows back when they premiered. Even the people who discovered or started watching later adapted to the format without needing to know every tiny detail about the show’s history or the previous episode; everything came fresh.

Old Episodes Are More Fun Sometimes

Okay, here is the deal. Think about watching an episode from Season 8 or ongoing Season 9 of Koffee With Karan! The guests, their equations, filmographies and the way they speak about their professional rivalries can look different when compared to the earlier episodes, of course, which can feel more raw and beyond the personal life of a celebrity. While sometimes you watch older episodes for nostalgia, other times you also watch them to see how a particular celebrity behaved earlier and their transformation over the years.

The Kelly Clarkson Show that started in 2019 ran for seven years and the finale brought the show back to its musical identity with the special celebration. The episode featured Clarkson performing the requested songs, including some of her own hits. The final Kellyoke performance was also particularly fitting, considering how central music has been to the premise of this reality talk show.

The conversations in these shows might be dated, makeup and hairstyle highly questionable (but that was the fashion statement then!), and the entertainment industry might have moved on, but the viewing experience is still recognisable. You know the host, understand the format, and you know the appetite you are choosing for yourself.

Are We Done With Traditional Talk Shows?

It could be unfair to pretend that these show formats have remained untouched by the changing entertainment environment. Celebrity culture is considerably changing, short formats are taking the driving seat, and celebrities are becoming more accessible now. They have their own podcast, YouTube channels, Instagram channels and other platforms through which they speak directly to the audiences. They do not necessarily wait for an appearance to share an anecdote or address a controversy in most cases.

However, that is not to say that audiences have stopped enjoying the conversation. If anything, the popularity of celebrity podcasts and vlogs means a leaning towards the larger conversation. But the way of consumption has perhaps changed. They can now watch a tiny clip, for the moment through shots or reels, revisit an entire interview later or simply follow the social media discourse without sitting through the length of the episode.

Perhaps that is where the question becomes a little complicated. Are traditional talk shows really losing their place or are audiences simply becoming more selective about the kind of conversation they devote their time to? The two shows talked about have very different formats but have largely relied on their hosts having recognisable personalities, depending on the presence built over the years.

There will always be another celebrity interview, podcast or platform promising unfiltered conversation, but will the audience develop a similar attachment to those formats, enough to revisit them years later? Can a new generation of talk shows build that kind of familiarity when viewers have other ways to spend their time?
