Obsess Series Review
In this story about grief, forgiveness and facing one’s mistakes, Obsess, with only 4 episodes, leaves a haunting effect on viewers. From the first moment, the series creates a dark and brooding atmosphere made better thanks to the beautiful cinematography. Despite some extremely obvious and silly horror tropes being used, the central message is interesting and showcases how enmeshed and controlling life can sometimes be.

Romance, regret and expectations come together for a swell time, especially for viewers who don’t want anything too over the top. The cast does a great job with the material, although what the series wants to convey ends up being surface-level since there’s not enough time to get into the nitty-gritty of the story.
Obsess Series Ending Explained
What happens in the Obsess finale?
In the finale, Hessa’s black magic has afflicted Mona to such an extent that it causes her to have a huge accident, resulting in her being confined to the hospital. However, even while she’s unconscious, she is terrorised by Hessa in that state, who torments her, hoping to end her life and take Talal for herself. Another reason is that she wants Talal to feel the same loss that she had felt when she lost everything because of his father, who had separated the lovers and fired her father. Thus, Hessa holds him and, eventually, Talal responsible for all of her misfortunes.
In the finale, Talal finally takes responsibility for his actions and gets the witchcraft materials from her grandmother’s house to burn them. It breaks her connection with the world of the living and, after seeing her for the last time, Hessa seemingly disappears. After this incident, Mona wakes up as well.

Four months after the incident, Mona and Talal are pregnant again and seem to be happy together. They have decided to stay back in Kuwait and build a family together at home. Talal has overcome the guilt that has held him back for years and has now moved on.
Does Talal break Hessa’s curse?
With the burning of Hessa’s witchcraft materials, it’s indicated that Hessa has been forced to leave Earth and Talal alone. She no longer appears before him, and Talal looks lighter as well. However, when Talal returns to Hessa’s grave to leave her diary there, we see the pages magically turning to reveal something troubling that she had written – Talal forever. This leaves things open-ended, as it casts doubt on Hessa moving on from this world and leaving Talal alone. Has he truly been able to sever the connection between Hessa and him? Is it the diary that connects the past lovers together? It’s these questions and more that leave Obsess on a dicey note.

The show does not exactly confirm what the last scene means, leaving everything to audience interpretation. It might suggest that although Talal has seemingly moved on, his memories and guilt will always be a part of him and will remind him of the unfair way in which his family has treated Hessa. Either way, one thing is for sure: it indicates that the farewell might not be a clean break.
What does the ending mean for Mona and Talal? Is Hessa still haunting Talal?
Although we see Talal and Mona living happily at his family’s place, the ending connection with the diary suggests that things might not be as uncomplicated as they might expect. It’s hopeful, in the sense that they are again expecting a child, have made up with their family members and are living in harmony. However, the final note in the diary leaves things on a more complicated note, as the happiness might not last.

Has Hessa’s presence truly disappeared, or is it only looking for a moment to strike again? Will Talal’s family’s past mistakes continue to haunt him and his future generations? The indication itself is terrifying.
However, from another perspective, Hessa will always be part of Talal’s life, which also suits the series’ connection between supernatural thrills and complex emotional history. While Talal breaks with the past and reconciles with it, so to speak, the lingering questions, thanks to the last scene, leave a lot of questions unanswered.
Is There Closure in the End?

Obsess gives Mona and Talal a chance to be happy as they overcome the problems that come their way and live happily. However, whatever Talal does in the present does not right the wrongs of the past. While Talal’s family happily comes together for now, the final scene indicates that some mistakes can probably never be undone. However, the interpretation is left to the viewers thanks to the open-ended turn of events.
