The Interest of Love episode 14 starts with Su-yeong drying herself off after having a good cry session under the pouring rain. Sang-su is there with her, after holding an umbrella over her head for a good while. The two talk about the rain and whether or not they like snow or not. She eventually asks him whether he saw her with Jong-hyeon a while back and asks Sang-su why he keeps coming back to her.

She questions whether they will work out together, and Sang-su tells her that he can handle anything that comes her way. The answer seems to satisfy her, and she changes the topic to the pouring rain.

The next day at work, the men get the calendars out of the truck. Since it’s the end of the year, it’s time to roll up some calendars once more and Sang-su continues to be cold to Gyeong-pil. The others also notice the awkwardness, but Gyeong-pil brushes it off as a joke. During the meeting, it comes to light that Su-yeong has taken the day off, and Mi-gyeong offers to sub for her at the subbranch.

On her way, she picks Gyeong-pil up, and the two of them share a rather awkward car ride to the subbranch. When they reach the office, Mi-gyeong meets her cousin and realises that they know each other from before. Mi-gyeong looks at Gyeong-pil with kinder eyes after her conversation when she finally learns the truth about what happened before her breakup with her first boyfriend.

Meanwhile, Sang-su is out to get signatures from their clients and texts Su-yeong enquiring whether she is feeling ok or not. Su-yeong seems to be sick, thanks to getting drenched in the rain, and he immediately rushes to her house after work when he realises it. Sang-su takes care of her and tends to her fever and looks heartbroken when he sees the remnants of Jong-hyeon all over her apartment.

The next morning, Su-yeong looks much better and healthier and is left smiling after seeing Sang-su’s efforts to make her feel better, especially the little cherry plant for her veranda. Meanwhile, at the office, Sang-su is left just a bit disappointed after he learns that Su-yeong has been transferred to another branch of the company.

Sang-su congratulates her later, and she asks him out for a celebratory meal that weekend. But first, she goes out for dinner with Min-hee, who gives her solid advice about what not to do at the new branch. She essentially advises her not to .light herself on fire to keep others warm – it’s not worth it in the end. Su-yeong is thankful for Min-hee and tells her that her difficult times felt better because of her.

Mi-gyeong makes a surprise entry at that point, choosing to come only because this might be the last time they see each other. Su-yeong, meanwhile, thanks her and apologises for everything. Later on, Su-yeong is surprised to find out that her parents have also decided to go back home because Seoul just isn’t for them.

The next morning, Su-yeong returns all of Jong-hyeon’s things but is unable to get in touch with him. She employs Seon-jae to give it to him and, back in his room, Jong-hyeon sobs, reminiscing about his life with Su-yeong. Meanwhile, Mi-gyeong finally sells Sang-su’s gift car and asks to meet him once. Sadly for her, he is meeting her father at that very moment.

Mi-gyeong gets there at the speed of light to help her seonbae since her father has started asking him to introduce his mother and for the wedding discussion to commence. She tells her father to never call him out of the blue again and that they are not going to get married any time soon. Talking privately, she takes out the coin from their first date and mentions how, if it’s heads after flipping, they will break up, and if it’s tail, they will get married in a year.

However, when the coin lands on tail, she lies and proposes that they break up. They eventually break up on somewhat good terms, at least Mi-gyeong doesn’t have one of her meltdowns again. A few tears later, the two part on good terms, thanking each other for the good times and the bad.

Anyway, it’s a good time for Sang-su and Su-yeong as they meet once more at the restaurant after their disastrous first date. This time, no one is having cold feet, and the conversation is light and natural. She asks him what he wanted to tell her that first night, and he replies, saying that he wanted to tell her that he liked her and that he wanted to take her out.

They eventually go on to talk about the future and what happiness means to them. Su-yeong mentions that she wants to concentrate on herself and her happiness for a change, and when she comes home, we see that she has packed all of her things up.

The next day, the office is in a tizzy when everyone realises that Su-yeong has simply resigned from her job. When Sang-su learns that her parents have also left, he immediately rushes to her apartment. She is nowhere to be seen there as well, and a heartbroken Sang-su can’t do anything but lament her sudden departure.

What a terribly slow episode. It felt like this episode was just a way to ease us into Su-yeong’s imminent departure, which, honestly, I think everyone realised was going to happen. Before anything, I think poor Su-yeong really needs some therapy and so that she is able to face difficult situations instead of lying or running away from them.

At least Mi-gyeong went down with some self-respect still impact. I enjoyed her conversation with Sang-su in the car. Although it was on the longer side, it actually showcased the heartbreak of a breakup when you know that it’s the right thing to do.

Either way, this episode was quite boring and didn’t really add anything to the storyline much.

  1. I can’t believe with everything they have to wrap up, they wasted like half this ep on filler. That does not bode well for the ending. Its gonna feel half arsed if they’re wasting time at this point
