Series Overview

The Golden Spoon (금수저) is a drama-thriller TV series directed by Song Hyun-wook and stars Yook Sung-jae, Lee Jong-won, Jung Chae-yeon, Yeon Woo and Choi Dae-chul, alongside other cast members.

The series takes over MBC’s Friday-Saturday 10 PM KST timeslot, previously occupied by Big Mouth. The series is based on the webcomic Geumsujeo by gp04fb on Naver.

Lee Seung-cheon is a poor student whose family isn’t able to afford much. Tired of not being able to enjoy the niceties of life, Seung-cheon meets a mysterious old woman who gives him a mysterious golden spoon. He can use the spoon to switch lives with another person, but he only gets three chances to make up his mind. So, will Seung-cheon choose his own family or give it all away for a life of wealth and luxury?

The Golden Spoon Plot

Disney+ synopsis of the show reads: “A child from a poor family acquires a “golden spoon” that can swap him with his rich friend and allow him a life that he always dreamed of.”

The series will stream from September 23 to November 12, 2022, at 10 PM KST on MBC. The Golden Spoon episode 5 will release on October 7, 2022, at 8 PM IST on Disney+.

Seung-cheon goes back to his life but will he regret the choice that he has made? Tae-yong tries to kill himself but is stopped by Yeon-jin while Ju-hee confesses to Seung-cheon.

Given no choice, Seung-cheon makes a deal with Hyun-do and has to leave. But what took place that got him arrested?

The Golden Spoon Episode 4 Recap

The Golden Spoon episode 4 shows Seung-cheon doubts about Oh Yeon-jin but soon finds that the message was a prank played by Jang-gun. Later he finds out that his father has started to change and is frustrated by this delayed change. Later, Tae-yong finds a memory about a golden spoon and visits the Hwang house in search of the spoon.

On the other hand, Seung-cheon finds out about Tae-yong’s past. Young-shin notices “Seung-cheon’s” habits to be similar to that of Tae-yong’s and is in doubt. Seung-cheon hurries home and stops Tae-yong from taking the spoon.

Tae-yong later suffers a panic attack after coming in contact with Hyun-do but is saved by Lee Chul. The next day, it is revealed that Yeon-jin is actually Ju-hee’s dead friend Jeong Na-ra and was also the one who filmed Tae-yong and Seung-cheon’s fight the other day.

Elsewhere, Yong-shin’s brother Seo Joon-tae arrives and threatens Seung-cheon which makes him run to his house, only to witness his family having a fun time with Tae-yong.

The next day Tae-yong questions Seung-cheon’s intentions about giving his family the apartment and the conversation soon leads to the importance of money over family. Tae-yong refutes that money cannot be as important as his family, but is soon interrupted by Ju-hee who arrives with his phone.

Lee Chul has been in an accident and has been taken to the ER, which shocks both boys as they run to the hospital. The panicked Seung-cheon forgets all about the exchanged lives and frantically looks for his father; calling him “Dad: as soon as he sees him. This is witnessed by Hyun-do.

The episode then ends with the story of how Jeong Na-ra exchanged lives with the real Oh Yeon-jin in order to escape her abusive father.
