The episode kicks off on a discouraging note for Usami and Rintaro, who learn that they’re currently disqualified from participating in the upcoming sports festival. The reason? Their teacher is certain they’ll fail the midterm exams, even though they haven’t started yet. To earn their spot back in the event, the two must somehow pass their exams. Unfortunately, studying isn’t exactly their strong suit. To make matters worse, Usami ends up clashing with Saku, the only person who might have helped them through it.

While trying to focus in the library, Rintaro unexpectedly runs into Waguri, who was supposedly unavailable all month. It turns out she’s also studying hard for her exams. During their conversation, we learn that, despite assumptions about her being wealthy, Waguri actually comes from a modest background and relies on scholarships, making her grades all the more important.

Their peaceful moment doesn’t last long. A new face from Kikyo High School, Subaru, appears and accuses Rintaro of harassing Waguri. This time, however, Rintaro isn’t facing the confrontation alone as his friends step in, and tensions quickly rise between the two groups. Thankfully, Waguri steps in just in time to clarify the misunderstanding and defend Rintaro.

By the end of the episode, the encounter leads to some meaningful changes. Rintaro finds himself growing closer to his friends and, to his delight, manages to set up a study session with Waguri.

Today’s episode starts from the moment Rintaro meets Waguri for his study date. He is more than anxious about this entire date, and we can see him fidgeting about everything. It is only natural that Rintaro is feeling conscious because now it is very clear that he harbours romantic feelings for Waguri. Then he finally meets his date, and she looks prettier than ever in her usual clothes. They go to a coffee shop, and this segment was really sweet because you can clearly feel the tension between them.

After the date ends, we see Waguri handing very precious and important notes to Rintaro. She took the time to analyse all the questions that might come in the exam and handed them over. Needless to say, this was a successful study date, but that is when Subaru comes to meet and talk to Rintaro directly. She is not at all happy that a person from Chidori school is approaching Waguri, and she does not hide her resentment towards Rintaro at all.

However, what I did not expect was for her to be so honest about her feelings and showcase her vulnerable side to Rintaro. She reveals how she was bullied when she was young because of the unusual colour of her hair. Waguri was the only person who would treat her with kindness.

I’m pretty certain that Subaru is just jealous of the bond that has formed between Rintaro and Waguri. However, her jealousy also stems from her care and overprotectiveness towards her friend. The anime tried to portray some complex characters, and they pulled this off nicely. Though this is a very typical shoujo drama storyline, the anime has managed to put forward its own flavour, making the show unique in its own way.
