The First Responders Episode 10 Recap

The First Responders Episode 10 picks up from where the previous one ended. Ho-gae reveals that when the girl was contemplating suicide, her brother was still in the house and did not offer help. The family is shocked by the revelation and forces him to answer the reason for his behaviour. He explains that the girl was trying to threaten him because he had physically assaulted her.

A few minutes in, Ho-gae is still trying to find out who the father of the stillborn is, but he keeps meeting dead ends. Until he throws in bait to catch the perpetrator, and it works. Surprisingly, the school’s principal also had physical relations with her, and she threatened him in return for the exam question papers.

Furthermore, it is found out that the child’s father was Song Ha-eun’s classmate from cram school, whom she refused to accept as a lover. Unable to handle the rejection, he committed suicide. Ho-gae sympathises with the teen and closes the case once and for all.

Later in the episode, Bong Do-jin discusses a peculiar case of a girl whose toes had been cut and was presumed dead, but the body was not found. Another incident occurs when a female is unconscious on the floor, bleeding because of a huge impact on her head in a restaurant. When the fire department reaches out to help the victim, the perpetrator holds a class bottle against one of the paramedics and threatens to kill him. Luckily, Ho-gae reaches on time and saves him.

As Do-jin is helping around the hospital with more cases, he comes across a patient who lost a lot of blood due to a wrist-cutting suicide attempt. He notices that the patient does not have her toes, and he quickly goes and informs Ho-gae. Confused and erratic, Ho-gae realises that the patient is Kim Hyunseo, who went missing seven years ago.

The police arrange an immediate search party, but the perpetrator already escapes with the victim from the hospital. With the help of clues from the victim, a picture that she tattooed on herself using a shart object, Ho-gae successfully locates where she had been locked for all these years. The episode then comes to an end on a cliffhanger.

The First Responders Episode 10 Review

The first half of the episode is slow-paced and predictable. The part where a rumour was intentionally spread about a minor to fish out the perpetrator felt off to me. Cases involving children should be handled delicately, and the show failed to display adequate sensitivity. That being said, it still sends a positive message about how teenagers in society, especially in Asian households, should be given the right amount of love and care.

The build-up for the later events in the episode was done seamlessly, and the turn of events will leave you shocked. The last few minutes of the episode are jarring and will make the viewers return for more. Characters were also seen to have made developments and become more relatable to the audience.

Kim Rae-won yet again stole the show with his incredible performance. He manages to stay in character throughout and deliver what the script demands. The supporting and recurring characters also did well in carrying out their respective roles.
