The Beginning After the End Episode 8 Recap

The episode opens with Arthur reuniting with his parents after many years apart. While this long-awaited moment had the potential to be deeply emotional, the anime’s execution fell flat, missing the emotional depth fans might have expected. Arthur is also introduced to his sister for the first time, and she quickly grows fond of the baby dragon, Sylvie.
During the reunion, Arthur attempts to recount his journey to his family. He tries to be as truthful as possible, although he deliberately withholds certain key details. He simply tells them that Sylvie is a mana beast he encountered while travelling.

The episode does offer some insight into the world’s mana power system. It’s revealed that mana is ranked by colour, progressing from black to white, with the lighter hues representing greater strength. Arthur’s father, Reynolds, has reached the orange stage, while Arthur himself has already advanced to light red, a notably high rank.
The standout moment of the episode is undoubtedly the sparring match between Arthur and his father. This is the first time Arthur demonstrates his mana abilities in combat. He surprises his parents by unleashing advanced fire magic, and even more impressively, he shows that he can also wield water magic, an uncommon feat for humans, who typically don’t possess multiple elemental affinities.
The Beginning After the End Episode 9 Review

This episode again starts with Arthur back in his home, where he spends time with Sylvie and is content with his current scenario. He also goes shopping with his mother and the Helstea family. They insist on giving him a makeover, and he gets to know that it is for the visitation of their gallery, which is even attended by nobles.
On his way, he meets some very rude kids who seem more like bullies to him. Later, he gets to know that these are mage students from the very prestigious Xyrus Academy. En route, he also comes across a shop that sells beast core, taken from a mana beast. The beast cores are very expensive, which comes as a shocking factor to Arthur, considering he already has one.

In this episode, we see the inner turmoil of Lilia, who has not yet awakened her magic. She thinks a beast core would help, but her parents are against it as they do not want to rush her. Her frustration becomes more apparent when she openly states that she hates Arthur for having the chance to go to the Academy while she does not have that. Thankfully, Arthur comes up with a brilliant plan to help Lilia understand her parent’s true intentions and make her see the reality.
Lilia becomes much more confident in herself and has a clear goal of what she wants to do. Towards the end of the episode, Arthur even helps her gain mana of her own.
Verdict

This episode did not have much depth plot-wise, and it mainly focused on the character development of Lilia through Arthur. There were not many scenes where the animation looked as glaringly bad as other episodes. But even then, I know for sure that this is a subpar adaptation, and that element cannot be changed now.
