Jinshi’s Sudden Request Sends Maomao on an Unexpected Journey
Today’s episode was a lot more interesting than the initial ones, precisely because we see a bit more of Jinshi even though he practically did not talk to Maomao at all. In the first half of this episode, we get into the story’s world-building. Jinshi suddenly tells Maomao to prepare for an impromptu trip. This becomes quite a challenging thing for Maomao, as she would have to prepare someone as her replacement.
That is when a surprisingly unnoticeable character becomes the potential successor of Maomao, who most likely could be a good apothecary in the future. We also dive into a lot of mystery, and it becomes apparent that this time as well, Maomao will have to come forward and rack her brain to come up with a solution.
Guen Takes Centre Stage as Maomao and Jinshi Travel to His Hometown
One of the best things about this anime is how effortlessly it gives insight into the world through dialogue and lets us know what is happening with other characters. Through the conversation between Maomao and Guen, we get to know that Gyokuyou left the rear palace with her kids, most likely because she got promoted to the position of Empress.
This is also why she could not take the cat Maomao with her, which is why Guen had to take care of the cat. Surprisingly enough, Guen becomes a pretty important character in this episode because Jinshi and Maomao travel to his home town, where there is a different kind of problem about which we are still mostly unaware.
One Joke About Maomao Leaves Jinshi Completely Flustered
Even the smallest hints about Maomao and Jinshi’s relationship feel meaningful and add to the story. In one of the scenes, Guen’s sister jokes that Maomao could be Guen’s young bride. Even though Jinshi was not in a position to say anything, he literally panics at just this tiny suggestion. This was meant as nothing but a joke, but Jinshi could not even handle that. These small mannerisms just make Jinshi’s love towards Maomao so precious.
Yes, we did not get much content on their relationship in this episode. However, I am sure that we will soon see them working together because they do not have many people to rely on for their recent case.
Maomao’s Theory About Jinshi’s Royal Future Raises New Questions
I also loved the tiny detail that we get through Maomao’s observation about the royal family. Maomao theorises that the way the king makes Jinshi work is almost as if he is training his heir. However, she holds her thought because there is already a Crown Prince. It would be really interesting to see what Jinshi’s fate would be later.
Final Verdict
I absolutely love today’s episode and would also love a bit more interaction between Maomao and Jinshi. Even then, the last bit was interesting, where we see a pair who might play a major role in the conflict at hand.
