Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 1 Reactions: Fans are Living for Rebecca-Keeley’s Friendship, Not So Much for the Break Up

Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 1 reactions are out on Twitter now that the third season premiere has hit the fans of the show in the feels. The Apple TV+ series has been developed by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly. It stars Sudeikis as Lasso, Hunt as Coach Beard, Hannah Waddhingham as Rebecca Welton, Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins, Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Nick Mohammed as Nathan Shelley, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, and Anthony Head as Rupert Mannion alongside others.

The Ted Lasso Season 3 premiere, ‘Smells Like Mean Spirit’, dropped on the streaming platform on March 15, 2023. Its official synopsis reads: “The newly promoted AFC Richmond face mockery as pundits predict they’ll finish dead last this season.”

After a long wait, the much-loved sports comedy is back to entertain us all, but even more so, make us all shed tears of joy. Sudeikis’ Lasso can be seen reeling from the pain of his recent divorce as he sends his son back to the U.S. after his short visit to meet him in England.

At the same time, the head coach starts questioning his role in all this mess – if he even deserves to be here. But most of all, the question that keeps vexing him throughout is – Why is he still here? It may take him a season-worth of time to figure it all out, but everyone else has just accepted him to be a part of the team as if he’s been there all his life.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 1 Reactions

Rebecca and Keeley’s friendship is still strong despite the latter’s new job, which required her to move out of the Richmond territory. They’re still very much each other’s emotional support, as one offers her bosom to the other to cry on, and the other deals out great advice. While they may be the best – best friends we’ve encountered on screen in a long while, another matter perturbs the show’s fans.

The first episode has left the hearts of the series’ fan-following shattered as Keeley and Roy seemed to have officially broken up. It was a long time coming following the arising tensions at the end of Season 2. Both of them need their time off to figure out things on their respective ends, but it still doesn’t subdue the insufferable pain the viewers feel, who’re now calling themselves the ‘children of divorce’. A lot has wrecked the fan emotionally, and here are some of the reactions that started trending on Twitter after the episode’s premiere.

  1. The look on Ted’s face was spot on when his son told him over video chat that Tom’s ex has a new “friend.” You could see he wanted to cry but was holding it together in front of his son. He was just heartbroken, because he was hoping they would get back together.

  2. Didn’t Lasso’s team make it to the playoffs last season? I can’t remember if they won, but if they made it that far, why is everyone expecting them to come in last? And besides the players, why is this cast so white? I would think sports is one area in life that would show some diversity.

    • Actually, the team barely survived last season. During the final episode, Richmond was fighting to stay in the competition, and was promoted back into the Premier League, but they still very much make for the most underdog team compared to the others. Also, they’re in England, so we’re bound to see white people, but then again, the football team itself has quite a few players coming from African countries – Sam and Isaac, to name a few, and Dani is Mexican.
