Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 9 Review on X: Episode 9 has somehow managed to pack joy, grief, romance, victory, revelations and one particularly devastating ending into the same hour. Based on X (formerly Twitter) reviews, it seems to be the kind of episode where you can be celebrating one moment and then suddenly staring blankly at the screen out of shock and surprise.
For the viewers, that seems to have meant everything; Ted Lasso apparently decided that one emotional crisis per episode was simply not enough, and X immediately took that up.

For user @riskasupremacy, Episode 9 was nothing short of peak Ted Lasso. They wrote, “S4 e9 was the best episode of ted lasso so far like it had the perfect amount of happiness and sorrow”, further adding, “Like genuinely so PEAKKK”.
The reaction captures what seems to have worked for so many viewers: the episode does not stay in one emotional lane. It gives the audience reasons to celebrate before pulling the rug out again. Roy and Keeley’s baby news sits alongside the ladies’ win, while Mae’s death brings an entirely different kind of weight to the episode. Further, Richmond’s storyline gets another major jolt with the reveal of who is trying to steal the club from Rebecca.
Then Came the Ending
If there is one thing X collectively seems to agree on, it is that the final stretch of Episode 9 was A LOT.
X user @noradominick admitted that the episode made them “cry so hard” and called it one of their favourite episodes of the season, but it was specifically the back-to-back scenes that got her. They write, “The back to back to back scenes at the end, with that beautiful song by Kingfishr. MY GOD #tedlasso”.
The ending appears to have hit viewers not simply because of what happens but because of how the episode lets the moments breathe. Ted Lasso lets the audience feel while the performances and music do the job.
Another user, @MaMoosie, found themselves crying even after figuring out what was coming, and wrote, “I guessed what was coming but in the end, still got the full emotional wind knocked out of me. Incredible moments & with the closing screen, tears came.” while appreciating Ted Lasso and its writers.
The Anthony Head Tribute Made It More Emotional
User @Wander_ingSheep expected to get a little emotional seeing the “In the memory of Anthony Head” message in the end credits, but they found themselves dealing with a very different kind of heartbreak. They wrote, “i was supposed to be lil sad at the end of the episode when they were supposed to put ‘In the memory of Anthony Head’ in the end credits. INSTEAD THE TED LASSO WRITERS GOT ME CRYING”.
They went on to call the episode one of Ted Lasso’s top five episodes.
X Has Been Emotionally Inconvenienced, It Seems
What makes the reactions to Episode 9 interesting is that nobody seems to be talking about just one thing.
Some viewers are celebrating, some are grieving, while some are screaming about the ending, some are processing Mae, talking about Alice, and some are still recovering from the final scenes, and at least one person would very much like the writers to reconsider whatever they did to the audience. All of this feels very Ted Lasso.
The show’s biggest strength has always been its ability to make sincerity feel earned: it can be funny and sentimental without completely separating the two; it can give its characters moments of happiness while still acknowledging that happiness does not really cancel out grief. Episode 9 seems to push that balance particularly hard.
Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 9 is messy, tender, painful and hopeful; and judging by X reviews, it has left everyone at the crossroads of being the best episode and a plea to remove the ending from existence itself.
