Every year, South Indians won’t miss out on certain old Tamil patriotic movies to watch on Republic Day as they’re not just poignant but carry a series of emotions delivered on point by top-level artists. There are dozens of classic India-Bakht films in Tamil, and today, we will show you six tremendous flicks that have won awards and nominations.

Indian – 1996

Starring Kamal Hassan, a legendary Indian actor, the movie follows the assassin moves of a veteran freedom fighter who belonged to the crew of Subash Chandra Bose. The protagonist starts to serial kill people who corrupt society. The movie was directed by Shankar, and A R Rahman scored the music. As of now, Indian 2 is getting prepared to be released in 2023.

Bombay – 1995

Bombay stars Aravind Swamy and Manisha Koirala in the lead roles. Aravind Swamy is a Hindu, and Manisha Koirala is a Muslim. Both of them fall in love, get married and share two children. When they move to Mumbai, an unexpected religious riot splits the couple and leads them to find somehow a way to reunite. The movie received many awards, including the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Film.

Jai Hind – 1994

In Jai Hind, action star Arjun acts as Bharath, a policeman who promises his mother that he will resign from his post. However, he finds out that behind his brother’s murder, there is a huge terrorist group. Hence, he sets out to capture them undercover. The movie’s music director is Vidyasagar, and all the songs are, to date, loved by the fans. One of the famous dance numbers from this movie Bodhai Eripochu has around 4 million streams.

Roja – 1992

Roja is technically a love story with heavy patriotic themes placed in it. A village girl falls madly in love with a city guy (he loves her as well) and moves with him to Kashmir after marriage. When everything is going wonderfully, the guy gets kidnapped by militants, leaving her yearning and fighting to save her husband. The movie’s music was done by A R Rahman, and Mani Ratnam directed the movie. Roja was also A R Rahman’s debut album, and South Indians lauded his combo with director Mani.

Bharathi – 2000

Based on the patriotic Tamil poet and freedom fighter Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharathiar, the biographical movie offered wonderful songs that had authentic words of Bharathiar. The movie was acclaimed as the clearest biographic flick of a renowned person. Some of the awards it received are National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil and National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer. The actor Sayaji Shinde who acted as Bharathiar did an excellent job winning the hearts of South Indian fans.

Hey Ram – 2000

Another classic patriotic film starring Kamal Hassan shows the life of Saketh Ram, who joins the gang plotting for Mahatma Gandhi’s death. Hey Ram received so many backlashes, but it is still one of Kamal Hassan’s best movies due to his bold act in this controversial plot. The movie bagged many National awards and nominations. The movie also features prominent Indian actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherji, Naseeruddin Shah and others.
