8 South Indian Movies to Watch On Ramadan 2023

Avakai Biryani

Avakai Biryani is a typical interreligious movie, but it definitely provides the comfort we need. The story follows a Muslim guy, Akbar, and a Brahmin girl, Lakshmi’s love story. Akbar is an auto driver who aspires to graduate in Commerce, while Lakshmi aims to open a hotel. Just when things are going well, the parents of the couple and society stand in their path.

Maanaadu

Simbu’s excellent comeback film Maanaadu is a sci-fi action telling the tale of a guy stuck in a time loop. Until he finds the answer, one particular day keeps repeating again and again. It’s such a cool movie to stream because the humour aspect is also crafted brilliantly, thanks to S J Surya.

Thattathin Marayathu

Here’s another cute interreligious romance film starring Nivin Pauly and Isha Talwar. When Vinod falls in love with Aisha, religion becomes their barrier. However, the warm end will leave one realising how love tops everything. The best part about this movie is the chance to see young Nivin Pauly looking extremely adorable and too good-looking not to fall in love with.

Ustad Hotel

An aspiring chef called Faizi (Dulquer Salmaan) comes back to India when his father refuses to support him. In order to achieve his dream, he helps his grandfather, Kareem, to run his hotel. The amazing dishes made by Faizi and the bond he shares with old pops are a must-watch with family.

Chandramukhi

One can’t miss out on watching the classic horror film (funny, creative, and vivid), Chandramukhi on Eid. Starring superstar Rajinikanth, the horror film tells the tale of an ancient dancer’s soul awaiting revenge. The comedian Vadivel and his bond with Rajinikanth is a game-changer. No matter how many years pass by, this movie will remain evergreen.

Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham

Here’s another family banger starring Jai, VTV Ganesh, Nivetha Thomas, and more notable actors. When three friends, along with their uncle, get drunk at a party, Lord Shiva plans to cast them on an island to teach them a listen. The locations, the storyline, and the visuals are extremely good, and it’s such a moralising movie to learn from and laugh out.

Jai

Yet another romantic film where a Hindu pal falls head over heels for a Muslim girl. When an Indian boxer loses to a Pakistani guy, the latter taunts the country. The patriotic sportsman practices arduously and defeats the Pakistani boxer at last. Amidst this, his relationship with an Islam girl is the best part that shows how there are people who misuse religion while the rest know the value of morals.

Bombay

Bombay is a cult classic for all Tamil people, thanks to the brilliant work rendered by Director Mani Ratnam and music producer A R Rahman. When an interreligious couple get married and move to Bombay, an unexpected communal terrorism separates them. During the chaos, the family unites after witnessing agonising events. This is surely one of the finest romantic movies that will pull one’s heartstrings.
