The episode opens with Aza Chobei, his younger brother Toma, Gantetsusai, and Asaemon Fuchi fighting the merged Kishikai form of Tao Fa and Ju Fa. The battle quickly becomes a desperate struggle, as the immortal beings continuously regenerate. Despite the overwhelming power of their enemies, the group manages to coordinate their abilities and Tao energy to exploit weaknesses in the Tensen’s regeneration. Chobei ultimately uses a hidden reserve of Tao he had stored earlier, coating Ju Fa with its healing ability. This allows the group to destroy the Tensen’s cores and finally defeat them.

At the same time, Sagiri and Mei encounter the calm yet mysterious Tensen Gui Fa inside the Rendan Palace. During their conversation, a horrifying truth about the Tensen’s ultimate goal is revealed. Rien plans to release special butterflies across Japan that will transform humans into flowers, eventually making the elixir of immortality.

Shion faces the powerful Tensen Zhu Jin in what becomes a near-suicidal confrontation. Lacking the same level of Tao as his opponent, Shion relies on determination, repeatedly slashing Zhu Jin. Nurugai watches in horror as Shion pushes his body to the limit while continuing the assault.

The fight between Shion and Zhu Jin went in a very different lane. Though Shion was very much struggling against his enemy, he managed to slow down the regeneration process of Zhu Jin. The only thing that kept Shion going was his vengeance towards the creature that killed his disciple. It did not matter that Shion himself was nearing his death. On top of that, he also kept Nurugai safe, even when he was injured with every move he made.

We also get to see the harrowing past of Shion, who got his scars from his own birth mother. His mother was a travelling performer, and she slit his eyes because it helped in their act of a blind child trying to dodge wooden swords. He was born blind, but the scars helped him gain more money from the performance. Shion’s mother told everyone that he got hurt in his fights. Shion also kept these lies because he didn’t want to tarnish his mother’s legacy, but was secretly ashamed of lying about his scars.

Tenza was completely different, and that is what made him an important individual for Shion. Thus, when the chance arrives for Shion to seek revenge for Tenza’s death, he takes it and battles Zhu Jin till his last breath. The fight between Shion and Zhu Jin was difficult to watch precisely because of how much Shion had to go through just to get to his goals. But I also should mention that Nurugai was absolutely useless in this battle, and she did not help Shion other than giving moral support.

Hell’s Paradise Season 2 Episode 10 Review

The episode ended in a very unexpected way, and I actually like that. Shion has definitely become one of my favourite characters from this anime because of how strong-willed he is. He did not care that a stronger enemy was in front of him; he just wanted revenge. But the bit about Gabimaru was also concerning, and we will have to see what his fate is going to be next week.
