Baazigar
While many might not be aware of it, the classic Shah Rukh Khan film is actually a remake of an American classic A Kiss Before Dying. The story follows a mysterious man who is behind brutal acts, which are revealed to be his revenge for the fall of his family. Compared to the original, director Abbas–Mustan took it a step ahead & actually detailed a backstory behind his gruesome actions, which was missing.

Hum Tum
Giving an Indian spin-off to the classic rom-com like Harry Met Sally, this Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji have the best songs that are still played on the radio, every now and then. It is a hate turned to love story, where the two protagonists certainly don’t have the best first impressions. Kaante
It is commonly known that Kaante is inspired by none other than Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. It is a story of feeling wronged, vengeance and betrayal that breaks apart 6 men, who decided to rob a bank in order to take revenge from the Los Angeles Police Department. But when things start to go awry, suspicion rises among them leading to some deadly conclusions.

Chachi 420
Robin Williams is well known for his role in the film Mrs Doubtfire and taking inspiration from the same, Kamal Haasan dons the disguise of the nanny named Shrimati Lakshmi Godbole. Also starring Tabu, Amrish Puri, Om Puri, Johnny Walker, Paresh Rawal and others, the film was successful in adapting the plot according to the Indian audience and is definitely a good entertainer. If you didn’t dance to the groovy songs of the film Partner then I am forced to believe that maybe your childhood wasn’t all that great. Inspired by Will Smith’s Hitch, the story follows a love guru who gets embroiled in controversies that get in the way of his own love life. Starring Salman Khan, Govinda, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif, the film is a classic comedy that many tune into, when looking for something lighthearted to watch. It is also available on Zee5 to watch.

Phir Hera Pheri
While it is a sequel to Hera Pheri, the film that gave us the best meme material, many viewers are unaware that it follows the same plot as the original film – Lock, Stock & Two smoking barrels and somewhat from Charlie Chaplin’s The Circus. Starring the comedic trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal, it follows their story of getting scammed, even after becoming rich & the chase to get all the lost money back. This Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie is actually a remake of The Miracle Worker, while both of them are based on the autobiography of Helen Keller. Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji, it is an emotional story which proved Mukerji’s mettle in acting. It even won a National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
Ghajini
The film popularised the term ‘short-term memory loss’ and for those who don’t know, it’s actually a remake of the 2000 film, Momento. Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, the story follows a man who wants to avenge his wife’s murderers. But due to his condition of forgetting things, he keeps a record through photographs, memos & tattoos. The only difference between the two is that in the Indian version, they were about to get married & not actually married. Also, the song by AR Rahman is just so hauntingly soothing.
Heyy Babyy
It is not a hidden fact that this comedic masterpiece is actually inspired by 3 Men and A Baby. Before the media obsession with Taimur and other celeb kids, it was the baby cast in the film that stole all the limelight. With a stellar cast of Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh & Boman Irani, you know a film would be a super hit if these pairs are present. The story follows 3 men who find a baby at their doorstep, ensuing chaos to find out the identity of the mother. You can watch it on Amazon Prime Video.
Satte Pe Satta
A Remake of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, this 1982 action comedy stars Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, and Amjad Khan with Ranjeeta Kaur, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Sudhir Luthria, Shakti Kapoor and others. The actors are often quoted for their work in this film & that is your cue to know that despite being an adaptation, it was rather enjoyable to watch. The credit definitely goes to the cast for not letting the Indian version of the story down which follows a nurse and her mission to straighten out her 7 brothers-in-law, with some actions & melodrama in between.
