What happens after Minoru and Makoto check out Tsuda’s apartment?

They find out that he was targeted by a yakuza group, which had something to do with the Kashima metal factory and firearms. This directly puts their father in contact with the group as well. The yakuza group also took Tsuda’s notebook, which might contain a clue regarding the murder of their parents. Weirdly enough, just when they were discussing investigating the factory, Fumi came to meet them. There, she kind of confronts them for snooping around the factory, and when Makoto asks her why she knows about the factory, she refuses to answer and goes away.

What is the new case Makoto is working on?

The case of a young woman’s accident comes to the brothers. Here, we get to know that the victim’s name is Ayaka and she did not die from the accident itself but from carbon monoxide poisoning. Apparently, she inhaled the gas before the accident while driving. While investigating, Makoto finds out that Ayaka killed someone accidentally, and it was not even her fault. This is why she was also not prosecuted that time. However, the victim’s husband, Uno, repeatedly protested to the police.

The police are now thinking that the husband might be the culprit behind Ayaka’s death, as a suspicious person was seen near her car. When the police stalk him, they find out that he also meets a therapist.

What is up with the therapist?

It seemed like the therapist knew that the Tagusari brothers, especially Makoto. She even meets Makoto later, who is highly suspicious of her. Here, she tries to make him understand Uno’s situation, claiming that his wife was dead while her killer roamed free and even returned to society normally. She also asked him to come by her office without disclosing much about herself. However, Makoto also does something major here after listening to the therapist. Even though he caught Uno on the CCTV camera, he said that he saw nothing. This hampered his investigation.

What is the relationship between Haruko and Kudo?

Kudo and Haruko began an unlikely friendship where they discussed their pasts. Haruko lets Kudo know how her family members all died tragically and also advises her to go to her mother and talk before it’s too late.

Does Makoto go to the therapist?

Yes, Makoto visits a therapist and finally opens up about his childhood, something we knew nothing about before. He talks about how he kept waiting for the culprit to be caught, but no one ever admitted their guilt. He also expresses his frustration with how everyone moved on and forgot what happened to his parents. During the session, Makoto completely breaks down, and we see a vulnerable side of him that he had hidden from everyone until now.

What worked and what did not work?

The ending gave a very subtle and intelligent hint about who might have been responsible for Ayaka’s death. It was presented in such an indirect way that it can be easy to miss. However, this kind of subtle storytelling is also one of the strongest aspects of the series.

There was nothing in particular that I did not like.
