Spooky in Love Episode 1 Review
How did Yeo-ri and Kang-uk first meet?
The premise is pretty interesting because it opens with Kang-uk and Yeo-ri meeting in a very unusual manner. The moment they met, their situation made them fight against each other and think that the other was involved in a murder. However, we later get to see that Kang-uk is a prosecutor and Yeo-ri just happened to be there.
What was the special power that Yeo-ri had?
Yeo-ri was able to see ghosts. This was not a very positive thing for her, as her relationships had been affected because of this. She was engaged to a guy who almost died because of dating her. Thus, he left her hanging, and since then, she has stayed alone and refused to touch anyone, as they, too, start to see the ghosts after touching her.
On the other hand, Yeo-ri also comes from a very good and rich family, so it was not like she needed someone in her life. She was a very successful businesswoman, yet kept her distance from everyone else at all times.
What case was Kang-uk working on?
Kang-uk was working on a murder case involving a very prominent man. Even though there was hardly any evidence against him, Kang-uk was sure that he was guilty of killing his former lover. Additionally, the culprit was also supposed to get married to Yeo-ri’s cousin. Hence, this was quite a complicated situation for both Kang-uk and Yeo-ri.
Why did Yeo-ri suddenly start helping ghosts?
Because of all the unnatural things happening around her, she went to a shaman who told her to help the ghosts out because that was the only way she would be able to live a happier life. We also see her start talking with another ghost and going out to help them. After the bat, we see her meeting Kang-uk in the process.
Do Yeo-ri and Kang-uk both get involved in a case?
Yeo-ri gets info from a ghost who instructed her to find his body. She then chased after the thugs who killed him. That is when Kang-uk joined her, and they discovered the body in the back of a car. Apparently, the victim was attacked, taken hostage and later killed. Such a situation completely shocked Kang-uk, who had trouble understanding how Yeo-ri managed to find the body.
How did things end between them?
Kang-uk gets a creepy feeling from the involvement of Yeo-ri and decides to pursue her for another case. He then goes to her hotel and tries to search for her to talk to her. However, she effectively evaded him for a long time. Finally, they meet again. But, they touched each other’s hands, and the episode ends there. Needless to say, this would result in a super chaotic situation where Kang-uk would suddenly start seeing ghosts as well.
What worked and what did not work?
This episode showed the emotional side of the characters, especially Yeo-ri. She has gone through a lot in her life, and although people often judged her unfairly, she tried her best not to let their hatred affect her. At the same time, it is clear that she feels lonely. She also fears hurting others, which is why she keeps her distance from people.
I’m still not completely convinced by the chemistry between the two leads, but I hope the series turns out to be a good one.
